When and where it happened:

November 29, 2008 4:00PM - 8:00PM

@ Asia Pacific College Cafeteria

What happened:

On a bright, shiny afternoon of November 29, APC alumni, faculty and students together with some industry partners have gathered together in four hours of non-stop knowledge sharing—from IT security, to game development, to latest technology trends and electronics.

Dubbed as "BarCamp APC", it is an open discussion forum piloted by some of the college's alumni through the APC Alumni Association (APCAA), in cooperation with the college's Career and Placement Office (CPO).

Spearheaded by Computer Science and Information Technology alumni of batch 2004, the team worked with APC, the APC Alumni community and industry partners to organize and manage the event. From the initial 10 would-be participants who registered in the e-groups some two weeks before the event, came a whopping 34 participants, with 9 speakers coming from the APC alumni, industry partners, faculty and graduating students.

BarCamp APC has based its concept from the original BarCamp (see www.barcamp.org), where open, participatory workshop-events are held, whose content are provided by the participants. In a BarCamp, the topics to be discussed are only known on the event itself, and participants coming into the event are encouraged to "share" their knowledge to the whole group. BarCamps are organized largely through the web, using tools such as the BarCamp Wiki, and a mailing list or e-groups where volunteers and participants can collaborate prior to the event.

The success of BarCamp APC makes it the second BarCamp ever held in the Philippines, and the first BarCamp to be ever held in a Philippine College. Discussions for the next BarCamp APC is now underway, targeting it to be done this coming College Week. So, see you guys on the next BarCamp APC!
