The Prequel
We're thinking of organizing some local DemoCamp events, starting with DemoCampDC1, to build a community and learn how to do this 'Camp thing before putting on a full-fledged BarCamp.
Where
We're currently discussing venue ideas. Your input is welcome!
Our ideal venue would:
- be accessible via Metro and via automobile
- allow people to sleep over
- allow food and drink
- have restrooms
- have space for about 75 people during the day
- have wireless 'net connectivity
- be cheap or free
When
Planning/discussion
We should certainly publicize this event to geeky groups around DC when we come up with a date and place. Maybe we should also hit them up for help planning?
Duplicates/splinters: 1, 2
Hosts
To be determined.
Campers
We should come up with a simple way for people to add themselves to an announcement list, where they're notified when the details are decided upon.
- Douglas Clifton - http://loadaveragezero.com/ - A little birdy told me this is to take place August 10-11 and there is a location, but where?
- AlekseyBaulin - http://www.hashdef.com - I'd be interested in attending, but not camping, depending on the date. And... will it ever take place?
- Alex Rudloff - http://www.emurse.com and http://www.netscape.com and http://www.alexrudloff.com - depends on the date, but yay :)
- Amanda Udoff - http://www.amandaudoff.com - Sounds potentially amazing!
- Amy Hoy - Texas holdem - I'd love to attend. I'll bring cookies. I don't have to camp if there's not enough room for everyone. Any idea for a date?
- AndrewKuchling - http://www.amk.ca. I live in the area, so I'm not interested in the actual camping part, but I'd certainly love to come.
- Andy Carvin - http://www.andycarvin.com and http://www.rocketboom.com and http://www.pbs.org/learningnow
- Antonio - I'm just a noob, but this sounds like a great idea. I would love to attend if held in the DC/VA/MD area.
- Ben Robertson - Debt Consolidation
- BruceMcHenry - http://discussIT.org - I'm in Mt. Pleasant, WDC somewhat often (e.g. around but not on April 6, 2006)
- Bryan Liles - http://smartic.us - I'm interested in anything happening the greater Baltimore / Washington Metro area.
- Calvin Williams, Jr. - http://www.xmgonline.com/ - I am in and out of the area but interested in attending a meeting.
- Cory Sorice - http://www.invent4equity.com and http://www.i4e.com - starting up and happy to be meeting up in and around No VA and DC
- DossyShiobara - http://dossy.org/ (tentative)
- Doug Ayen - http://blackanvil.livejournal.com/ - Sounds like a good idea.
- Ed Summers - http://inkdroid.org
- Eric Litman - http://www.litman.org/ - I'm a DC local, and if the date works out I'll be there.
- EricGundersen - http://www.developmentseed.org/blog - hey Tim, is Silberman coming?
- Frank Hecker - http://www.hecker.org/ and http://www.mozillafoundation.org/ - I may or may not be able to attend due to other commitments, but am definitely interested
- HartRossman - http://www.saic.com or http://www.hartandmelissa.com -
- Jesse Thomas - AOL http://www.jess3.com - Sounds awesome!
- JeffMiccolis - http://www.developmentseed.org/blog
- JohnAnderson - http://genehack.org/ - is there some sort of mailing list for the effort?
- Josh Greenberg - http://chnm.gmu.edu and http://epistemographer.com - In the area, but up for any potential events...

- KeithCasey - http://blogs.caseysoftware.com - sounds like a great idea to me.
- Mark Hinkle - http://www.encoreopus.com & http://www.zenoss.com.
- Debt Consolidation
- Mark Matienzo - http://thesecretmirror.com/ , http://archivesblogs.com/ & http://matienzo.org/
- Matt Lesko - http://iatrogenic.cx - I like the sound of it, not so much the camping (since I live just a few miles away)
- MattGood - http://matt-good.net
- MattRevelle - http://mrevelle.blogspot.com Along with Andrew, I'd be interested in attending, though I don't have a need for the camping part.
- Mayur Venkateswaran - Totally in for this, let me know how we I can help get this going -- is anyone going for the NYC one ?
- Meg Walker - http://www.networksolutions.com - I'm interested in attending and meeting other SEO folks in the area!
- Michael Haggerty - http://www.trellon.com - I camp the bars, would love to bar the camps as well. I heard McArthur said the same thing.
- Mike Lewis - (http://www.qloud.com and http://sideways8.wordpress.com) can't wait for this to happen. Let me know how i can help
- MikeCarvalho - http://www.echoditto.com/
- Nikolas Coukouma - http://atrustheotaku.livejournal.com - I'm in the area and I'll make some queries at my university about space.
- RogerStrickland - http://slapcast.com/ - I'm in for at least part of this. (Perhaps we should scale back time commitment since we will not likely attract the 200+ of the original BarCamp?) I'm happy to provide free podcasting hosting services for all of the presentations if someone can rig up some sort of recording setup.
- Ruby Sinreich (depends on the date) - http://NetcentricCampaigns.org & http://lotusmedia.org
- RyanGreen - http://ourmedia.org Depending on the date, i'd totally be up for it. Google Satmap image leads that the venue may be a bit small, are there options for larger spaces?
- RyanPark - http://www.ryanpark.org - yep, sounds very interesting. I'll be interested in attending, depending on the date, but probably not camping.
- ScottStadum - http://www.brokekid.net & http://blog.candysandwich.net
- SeanMountcastle - http://seanmountcastle.com I also live in the area, so no need for camping. I may not be able to attend the entire event as I have a prior obligation on Saturday afternoon.
- TimJones - http://www.echoditto.com/ I live in the area, but camping sounds great. I can also rig up a recording setup for podcasting.
- Tom Markiewicz - http://www.tmarkiewicz.com - depending on the date, I'm planning on being there!

- Holly Samee - http://www.culturecaptioning.com/
- John: No mailing list as of yet...I think we are all still gauging response to this - Greg
