If you are on Google Wave, search for BarCamp Adelaide - there is a planning discussion thread.
What is a BarCamp?BarCamp is a conference organised by people who are interested in sharing ideas in an open environment. It looks to network groups of people together with common interests and share information and ideas. You do not necessarily have to work in the fields covered, just show a general interest. It is not a traditional conference and usually runs on an open grid format, with presenters choosing a timeslot during the day when they arrive, usually 15-30 minutes long. BarCamp traditionally covers things like web apps, open-source technology, gaming, social media and more! At BarCamp, participants are traditionally all expected to participate in some way. If you have cold feet about talking in front of everyone, why not help out in another way, or present with a friend! BarCamp Adelaide 2010 will also be free to attend.
What is the story behind BarCamp Adelaide?BarCamp in Adelaide was first run in 2007 as a traditional weekend camp style event south of Adelaide. After reports of other states in Australia continuing on with the successful franchise, Adelaide got involved again in 2009 with a BarCamp on February 21, with 30 attendees. It was $15 for entry, which provided lunch, drinks, cupcakes and a BarCamp Adelaide lanyard. The social networking phenomenon in Adelaide is growing, though we are slower to catch on to it all than other states, it is quickly growing. This is mainly thanks to media exposure of social networking tools such as Facebook and Twitter to bring likeminded people in the industry together to share ideas.
Adelaide also has CupcakeCamp which is coming up on November 22, 2009.
Planning DiscussionsMost planning for BarCamp 2010 will be done via IRC. To participate, go to http://webchat.freenode.net and connect to the channel barcampadelaide with a nickname. If you are a Twitter user, connect with your Twitter username (unless it is already registered to someone else). BarCamp planning chats will be advised three to four days ahead of time on the official BarCamp Adelaide Twitter account, http://www.twitter.com/barcampadl.
There may be one or two face-to-face discussions in the Adelaide CBD, these will be advised after an IRC discussion if we feel that one is necessary. All event information will be posted at the website and on Facebook as an event invitation.
Who, What, Where, When

Shame - I'll be overseas at the time.
One thing to bear in mind regarding your dates is the Open Source Developers' Conference in Melbourne on the 5-8th December '06 - try not to clash with that :-)

it might be possible to do this cheaply if we go bush a bit.
woodside coolstores might be good.
or in the mid north near peterborough.
the towns are basically for sale due to drought.
we could easily get cheap accommodation there and it would
be a real blast for the locals?

I have an idea on a location for BarCamp Adelaide:
Moana Pioneer Hall
Nashwauk Crescent
Moana SA 5169
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Adelaide,+Australia&ie=UTF8&om=1&z=16&ll=-35.19836,138.472281&spn=0.012169,0.027122&iwloc=A
Details for the Hall:
$100 Bond
$200 Hire of the hall for the 2 days
There is a kitchen with microwave, oven, hot water, fridge etc.
We can sleep in the hall over night.
And we can get PLI though the Onkaparinga Council
There is also a caravan park next to the Moana Pioneer Hall called "Moana Beach Tourist Park" http://www.moanabeachtouristpark.com.au/

In all of these discussion keep in mind those that can only be a limited distance from town such as oncall or shift work.
Need to ensure bandwidth is available for those that work in the industry.

Hi Guys - Kim gave me a heads up on this event; i am in!
RE: the name change to "BeachCamp" - kinda destroys the whole Foo-Bar origin and detracts from the "geeki-ness"
-> "nay" vote from me.
On the other hand - i think we should call all the Australian BarCamps "BazCamp" - see BarCampAustralia page

Just been doing some research into this whole barcamp.org thing: We have our own domain http://barcampadelaide.org/
It links back to our wiki page. I encourage everyone to use it when advertising both offline and online. (Newspapers love real domain names!)
