Sessions at BarCampBoston

Sessions are the main events at BarCamp. They offer a chance to get a group of people together for an in-depth talk or discussion. Sessions will be scheduled live during BarCamp by writing your name and topic on the event grid. But you can use this page to test the waters for a topic, lure people to your session, or ask for a session on something you want to learn about.

If you want to give a session, put your name and session topic here.

Potential Panel Topics

  • The Future of the Evil Empire - A panel about Microsoft's place in the future of technology. As a proponent of Microsoft technology and web developer, I'd be interested to get together with developers from othe languages and have a panel about Microsofts role and the effects of open source on propreitary software. I think this could be very interesting. Ian Muir

  • Understanding Taxonomy - A panel on tagging, folksonomy, taxonomy. This could be a good way for several presenters to each present a micro-session on a topic related to taxonomy and then have a discussion about the pros and cons of each. Ian Muir Orginally Inspired by David Weinberger on the mailing list

  • Your Second Life - No, not the game. Talk about the things you're doing in your off-work time (or on work, but not for your company) that you're hoping to grow into a new career. Discuss ways to grow these ideas into money-makers. Talk about networking with other attendees to really give the projects momentum. -- suggested by Chris Brogan...

Request a Session Topic

If you want to see a session, list its topic here along with your name. If you're interested in something you see here, add your name!

  • Videoblogging
  • How about a session on cool ideas for web apps that we just don't have time to do - maybe someone *has* the time? (idea stolen from BarCampOttawa)
    • Maybe we could take is a step further. Rather than having a session, we could incorporate this with the contest. Create a period for people to take 5 minutes each to share their project around 4:00pm on the 3rd and use it as a catalyst for the coding competition.Ian Muir
  • Since Amit & Resig have signed up, I'd like to see their award winning "Hacking Myspace" presentation
  • Using SketchUp, emphasis on writing scripts for SketchUp (would also be an intro to Ruby)
