What is this all about?

BarCampEarth (formerly BarCampWorldwide) is a simultaneous compendium of Barcamps around the world to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the first-ever BarCamp. It will take place August 25-27, 2006.

Infrastructure

ScottBrooks is suggesting that eDome (http://edome.cambrianc.on.ca/about.htm in Sudbury might be available as a central facility for broadcasting. It's on the Internet2 network with massive bandwidth fiber connections and has a full digital broadcasting and production facilities.

Update Thursday May 18 7:45 am: I am getting the exact specifications from the edome people. there should be more then enough bandwidth to handle everything. I will upload the technical data as soon as i have ... later today

I have indicated to the people in sudbury that David Crow will be the Barcamp Liason for this and the fact that he is realativly close to sudbury .....and i think it would serve him well to spend some time out of the city.

Update Tuesday May 16 1:24 am: Ok .....I spoke to Sylivia Barnard the President of Cambrian College. She was very interested in being involved in BarCampEarth. Once I get back from the Barcamp/mesh experience i will be following up to set up the required meetings. I have also spoken to the City of Sudbury and they are interested in seeing how they they can help the project.

Update: Monday May 15 10:00 pm: I have made the requests for the facility and seeing how we can make this work. As i have more information i will be sure to pass it along to the community. I believe that we will be able to get things moving.

Talking together worldwide: I'd like to collaborate with MichaelHerman (who facilitated RecentChangesCamp) to find good software for holding distributed collaborative sessions - I know it's out there, and Michael has used some of it. It's important that it be platform neutral, democratic, friendly, and visual. Let's see what we can come up with for RichDistributedCollaboration. DeborahHartmann

MattisManzel I have moved your great info to the RichDistributedCollaboration page. I'm busy this week but let's connect in a little while!! DebH (this comment apparently left on 2006-05-21)

MattisManzel: I set up EarthTing1 along with BarCampEarth. We have a 24/7 gobby standalone server running to test and use gobby. See TingCamp for log in and more, please.

Theme Song

I created a theme tune for BarCampVancouver yesterday, but other Bar Camps (and anyone else for that matter) are free to use it for your own purposes too. Get yourself a free, Creative-Commons licensed copy of "El Campo," the semi-official custom Bar Camp theme tune. Go wild. Derek K. Miller
