Menu: Home Venue Attendees Sessions Schedule Updates Sponsors The Basics

5/25/08 Kelsey Ruger - Planning started.

Basic Stuff we need

  • Finalized Date
  • Venue
  • Barcamp Supplies (Whiteboard, Dry Erase Markers, projectors, power strips)
  • Volunteers to help with announcements and keeping things moving

5/25/08 Kelsey Ruger/Erica O'Grady - Adopt a Non-Profit?

The Idea: Have 3 to 4 non-profits present at the beginning of the day (elevator pitch style) about their mission and goals. Have BarCamp attendees vote on which one we would like to raise money for during the event and adopt for the next year, with the intention of having BarCamp participants help them out with infrastructure, web site, misc technology needs, marketing, social media, etc. as needed during the year. We would need to start looking for nominees shortly. Thoughts on this idea?

5/25/08 Geri Druckman - PenguinAid

Though it's in its early stages, we are working on the website and at the same time on the legal side with a lawyer to create an official NPO and 501(c)(3). By the time of BarCampHouston3 it should all be ready to go. I will be more than happy to present PenguinAid.

5/26/08 Josh Tabin - Startup Houston

I will take it upon myself to secure sponsorship for the event (but open to anyone who wants to help). I am going to set a maximum sponsorship at $300 to make sure we do not have any one sponsor with more weight than another. Let me know if this is okay with everyone. I listed Linux Journal as our first sponsor.

Let me know if anyone wants me to help create a budget for the event so I can make sure to raise enough funds.

5/26/08 Scott M Stolz - WisTex - Houston Business Meetup Group

Idea: Speed Networking - If we have enough room, perhaps a couple of sessions of Speed Networking would be fun and useful. While not a "traditional" session, I think that it would fit in well, because part of being there is to meet other people. I know that I am pretty shy in person, and more expressed online. Speed Networking would make it easy to meet a lot of people quickly and make some great contacts.

6/12/08 Josh Tabin - Shirts?

I have sponsors lined up and want to know who is taking ownership of the shirts. Let me know so I can coordinate getting logos from sponsors.
