News

4/2/08 - We've reached the 75 point, however we may have extra shirts. Feel free to continue to sign up. We encourage you to show up to the event - you might not get a t-shirt, but there should be enough food to go around (as long as you are participating!).

3/28/08 - We're cutting off t-shirts at the first 75 signed up on the wiki. We'll order 75 t-shirts no matter what, but we don't have the funding to produce more than that. So if you're not signed up here, do it now! We've also added the ability to pledge to the event! Please help us cover costs aside from the donations we have received, as food and teeshirts add up to an incredible amount of money (free breakfast, lunch, and dinner? come on!). Please head over to the link posted at the top of this page to toss a few bucks to the event. Remember, this event is what YOU make of it!

2/8/08 - We have a facebook group now. (If you use facebook, please RSVP and spread the event virally.) If you don't use facebook, don't worry this page will be considered the most up-to-date source of information.

1/30/08 - Welcome to Bar Camp Rochester 3. We had a great time last year with BCR2 and everyones looking forward to another exciting camp. If you have any questions feel free to contact Sela Davis (rune-at-csh-dot-rit-dot-edu) if you have any questions. Otherwise, look for updates here! -Mike Dumont

What is BarCamp?

In the spirit of FooCamp, BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees.

All attendees must give a demo, a session, or help with one. All presentations are scheduled the day they happen. Prepare in advance, but come early to get a slot on the wall.

Presenters are responsible for making sure that notes/slides/audio/video of their presentations are published on the web for the benefit of all and those who can't be present.

Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join.

Venture over to the BarcampRochester tag on Flickr for photos from the previous two events!

NO SPECTATORS, ONLY PARTICIPANTS!

When you come, be prepared to share with barcampers. When you leave, be prepared to share it with the world.

You can learn more about BarCamp in this Wired Magazine article. There is another nice article here. Take a look at video summaries from BarCamp SF and BarCamp Austin.

Who

This is a multi-disciplinary event... meaning that we want designers, developers, marketers, engineers, artists, thinkers and reality-checkers... no more bubbles -- we want cross-pollination! If you want in, like technology, to build things or asking good questions, you should come!

Chris Lockfort:I made a script to add numbers to the wiki campers list so it'd be easier to divvy up T-Shirts as per the posted 75-rule. I'm kinda tired, but I don't think it made any errors, I checked preview to see if it exploded.
Joe:Awesome! Jay's skyline kicks ass, but I'd be curious to see what some of RIT's professional designer type people could do. :D
Sela Davis:We've been talking about a new logo, actually, and I might see what I can come up with myself / talk to some of my graphic design friends as well. I think we're going to keep the BarCamp logo, say BarCampRochester3, but perhaps change the skyline / etc. If you have any thoughts, let me know and I'll see what I can do as well. I know plenty of people who would love to do this for a portfolio piece (myself included). Also, thanks for the three pages you added! :D I sent you an email with a bit more information, too.
