Topics

Fill 'em in here. Sessions will be selected and slotted during the Scheduling Jam on Saturday morning.

  • GameCamp2008 - all things Gaming (web, PC, console, indie, mobile, casual, business case, etc) - Dustin Sacks
  • Marketers for a Cause - Jordan Behan - A simple but fun idea; we all get together, select a charity, and work together to launch a social media campaign for them. Everyone will have a role, and we'll launch within the allotted time of the session. Sign up now at that link over thar.
  • Podcasting Basics - The After the Credits Crew: Dale McGladdery, Colleen Vince, Marina Antunes - Just enough information to record and publish your own podcast. This show-by-doing workshop will simultaneously tempt the God of Demos and Murphy.
  • How to Be a Laptop Bedouin or 'Hobo 2.0' - Julie and Darren are going to start a conversation about living where your work isn't, and what tools and techniques you need to live in Africa and work in Yaletown.
  • WordCamp @ BarCamp with Duane Storey and Rebecca Bollwitt
  • VHS: A Collaborative Approach to Hardware Hacking - An introduction to http://www.hackerspaces.org with an introduction to VHS - Joe Bowser
  • Multilingual: the extra issues that arise when we do all that cool blogging, web development, filmmaking, Drupal and Joomla and Wordpressing that we do, but in two or more languages. (Proposer, Jim DeLaHunt, can no longer attend BarCamp, but he hopes someone can pick up the topics and report on the conversation.)
  • Ethics and Web 2.0 Raul Pacheco An open discussion on the ethics of blogging, commenting, sourcing, fact-checking, privacy concerns.
  • Unconferences and Large Organizations Karen Fung A sharing of experiences on unconferences and BarCamps with orgs/companies outside of Tech. Karen will reference her experience TransLink and the upcoming SkyTrain Unconference, and would like to hear from participants to BarCampBankBC (financial), TransportHeroCamp (CUTA) and others.
  • ShortTermOlympicVancouver2010RentalsForBigBucks.com Todd and Darren want to lead a talk about building a short-term apartment rental site for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. The conversation will cover feasibility of the idea, requirements, business model and so forth. If participants think it's a good idea, we'll form an ad hoc group to build the site. OlympicRentalNotes capture the whiteboard and pivot to a wiki dedicated to the project.
  • Information Highway to Literacy Highway: One is awesome, the other promotes awesomeness (or can we be strategic when going from one to the other?) Dave Ng (is new at this, but) wants to start a dialogue about the quirks of web dynamics in so far as providing a place - not just an archive, or content holder - for people to really become informed on issues of note (i.e. scientific, social responsibility, or environmental literacy). He's done a few goofy web experiments himself, but is ready with a particular project in mind.
  • There is no Mobile Web, only Mobile Users: Igor from Handi will talk about the future of the Web on mobiles and share new groundbreaking stats on mobile habits of Vancouverites - derived from Handi's collaboration with TransLink and Global TV
  • Don't forget the post-BarCamp hockey pool.
  • Ethical SEO:Lyal from Outcome3 wants to lead a talk about ethics and how you promote your blog/business/YouTube channel.
  • Intro to Co-operatives - Robin Puga, co-host of Vancouver Co-op Radio's Each for All, wants to introduce the co-operative business model (they are not just for hippies!) and discuss the potential for a technology co-op in Vancouver.
  • Media Reuse Online and the Semantic Web - The Play the Web Group moderates a discussion regarding the ideas and issues surrounding media reuse on the Web, building tools to enable it, and how the Semantic Web fits in.
  • Usability with Jocelyn

What is BarCamp?

BarCamp is an ad-hoc un-conference born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from attendees.

All attendees are encouraged to give a demo, a session, a presentation, or help with one. All attendees are expected to be participants. All presentations are scheduled the day they happen. Prepare in advance, but come early to get a slot on the wall.

Presenters are responsible for making sure that notes/slides/audio/video of their presentations are published on the web for the benefit of all and those who can’t be present.

Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join.
