Rapid-fire technology demos (and networking), no PowerPoint slides!

DemoCamp Portland 1 will be held in conjunction with BarCampPortland on May 12, 2007. We are combining these two events to reduce costs and increase attendance. Future DemoCamps in Portland will be held independently and on a regular basis (assuming there is interest). Information on a possible Demo Camp Portland 2 will be provided at the event.

About

A DemoCamp is a lighter-weight style of un-conference. A DemoCamp lasts only a few hours. Unlike a BarCamp, you don't have to actively participate. You are welcome to come along and give feedback to the people who do (or just watch and absorb if you don't feel like talking). Presenters are given 10 minute each, which includes introduction, demo, and Q&A time. After ten minutes with the mic, it's on to the next person. The presentations for this DemoCamp are below on this page.

Do you have a web site or web application, tool, a piece of software, a set of scripts, new toy, hardware hacks that you want feedback on? Bring it. Show it. Share! Rules of DemoCampPortland

  • Rule #1: Talk about DemoCamp! Spread the word!
  • Rule #2: No slides / PowerPoint, only working software, websites, hardware, etc.
  • Rule #3: 10 minutes and you're off the stage, no time extensions.
  • Rule #4: You do not have to be a Portland-area resident to present, but local participation is highly encouraged.

If you have a demo, please list your name, contact info, and demo title here. If there are more demos than available slots (currently six), we will invite attendees to vote prior to the event. Alternates will also be selected. NOTE: Presenters should also add themselves to the Attendees section.

  • What's the purpose of DemoCampPortland?
    • To see cool stuff and network with cool people on a regular basis.
  • Does it cost any money to attend or present?
    • No...and no one makes any money from this. Sponsorships are to cover costs only.
  • How often will there be a Demo Camp in Portland?
    • Initially, the focus is to make the first event successful. Assuming there is demand, we will schedule Demo Camps on a regular basis, likely quarterly, although Toronto meets monthly.
  • Who can come?
    • Everyone is welcome! Please add your name to the Attendees section of this page so that we can effectively plan for the event.
  • What's the difference between a DemoCamp & a BarCamp?
    • See above.
  • Do I have to give a demo?
    • No. Unlike a BarCamp, you are welcome to passively attend and give feedback to the demo presenters (or just watch and absorb if you don't feel like talking).
  • What if I do want to demo?
  • What facilities are available?
    • There will be a projector and sound system available, with VGA and mini-stereo connectors, and a basic computer available. Presenters can bring a laptop if the demo cannot be hosted on a shared computer. Electrical outlets, a microphone, and Internet access will also be provided.
  • Who is organizing DemoCampPortland?
  • Who decides who gets to demo?
    • There are (currently) six available presentation slots for this DemoCamp. If more than six presenters sign up, attendees will be allowed to vote prior to the event. Just edit the wiki page and add your demo idea! Voting information will be provided in the future, if required.Roma
