Brian: Don't tell anyone about this, but I'm doing a class for the Digital Arts and New Media Program at UCSC. Sunday, tomorrow at 12 noon and for 5 weeks following (12-3) in Porter college.
Vanessa: Interested in flash as an animation tool
Justin: Interested in general understanding of flash
Peter: Half of Shane & Peter (S&P). Works with flash in all different levels including prototyping. Interested in meeting flash devs and in offering insite into business usages, pro's and cons' of flash. Including when to use and not to use flash as a solution.
Brandon: Works with S&P and Tiayr. Does flash prototyping, from minor graphic examples all the way to IP TV demos. When does the prototype become the product?
David: Use flash to make games. got no design skills, but find it really easy to do what you need to do without obscene amount of effort. Uses Flex to write the code.
Brian: would love to know more about using Flex IDE to code.
Kevin: Want's flash on his website. Not sure if it's the right solution.
Colby: Wants to find out what prototyping means and how flash applies.
Peter: For example, you can use 3d remote and papervision to produce a 3d user interface.
Brian: Interesting thing in flash 10 is hooking C code.
Daniel: flash is good for simulating non standard controls.
Brandon: good for visualizing something that is particularly hard to describe.
Dean: Likes the process of working with designers and creatives and the adding the function to make things work. Gone beyond prototyping to rapid application dev. Love working intimately with designers.
Daniel: Interested in the use of Cairngorn and ways to improve framework coding. Interested in using flash to simulate systems and applications.
Tiayr: More interested in Flex and Air. Likes to develop and "run with it".
David: do a lot of 3d graphics and illustration. interested in Actionscript. Been doing a lot of work with flash presentations on the web.
Vanessa: It's totally possible to use flash as an artistic tool. Recently used it synergistically with video.
David: Interested in how flash has been used in comics.
Brandon: how viable is flash for building an application?
Tiayr: Love it! been doing it for a while. with AIR it's even got a great backend.
David: only been working for a month. but a programmer for years. looks just like java.
Peter: I get a lot of heart ache due to the impression that flash is easy. "Oh look my brother made this app last night, you can do this other app no sweat and launch it in a product"
David: Flash basically filled the Java niche
Peter: aaron, introduce yourself
Aaron: Work with S&P doing flex dev
Peter: particuallrly i get heart ache from the un expected heartache that happens ....
David: That's basic computer science. The saying is that you should add 1/3 time on your estimate. and if you've already added 1/3 then add it again.
Daniel: what do you find most challenging
David: (complicated example that i couldn't follow :) )
