“Unconferences” are participant-driven conferences centered around a specific theme, for which event participants typically make the specific agenda up when they arrive. They are characterized by low costs and very active participation by attendees, and are a growing worldwide tradition in the professional web technology community (e.g.: "BarCamp") and, more recently, in government at the Federal level, with active participation from the White House, the US General Services Administration, NASA, the Dept. of Homeland Security, and the Environmental Protection Agency among other Federal entities (e.g.: TransparencyCamp and Gov20Camp).
