What
beHack is an attempt to bring together hackers in the Central Virginia area to collaborate with and motivate one another to build cool, exciting ideas. In the barCamp unconference style, these ideas can really be anything, although I imagine there will be several web&mobile application ideas, as well as some hard electronic hacks.
When
It would be great if we can organize this just before beCamp so that we can show off what we've done at beCamp's Science Fair. While 48 hours seems to be the standard length of a hackfest, it might make sense to make the first one a little shorter, especially depending on where we can hold it.
Where
We don't have a physical location for this. Much of this depends on how much interest we get and the types of projects people want to work on.
Why
Do we really need to say why? We love making things, and feel intrinsic value in this! For extrinsic motivations, we'll have to seek out sponsors for prizes if we feel that's important.
Who
Sign up here if you're at all interested, even if you can't make it.

- It'd be cool to have a single interface where we can watch what's going on in each room at beCamp (streaming video and screen sharing)
- Having a virtual board for sessions at beCamp would also be fun, especially if it's touchscreen
- I've been reading up on ZigBee recently, and it would be fun to explore what we can do with this along with some arduinos
- I'd like to be able to use a tablet as a programmable effects pedal for an instrument.

- Can bring some basic electronics equipment (soldering iron, solder, resistors, capacitors, wire, multimeter, some logic DIPs, breadboard, Arduino, FTDI). I can get more specific if there's interest.
- Have space in my office that could accommodate 10 people comfortably, possibly up to 15.

- Provide spatial awareness of areas for blind people. (Blind friend of mine once stuck his hand in a urinal looking for a sink!) Good usage for ZigBee?
- I want to have a brainstorming session that begins completely open-ended but culminates in 2 or 3 ideas that each can save the world.

- My sister just popped out a kid, so I'll be going to Nashville soon. Don't know when.
- I generally love these type of things, count me in if possible. With a little luck I can convince my wife to cook! :D

- I like building stuff with Python and Solr.
- I like building simple web apps for people who could desperately use some automation.
- Might consider Node.JS apps for fun.

On a nice day, I could potentially host an event. I have a nice outdoor patio at my apartment that can accomodate about 6 people easily. |
