BarCampBankLondon is an informal event for FinTech practitioners in and around London [that includes Krakov and New York]. The first events were an offshot of BarCampBankParis and held in 2006. After a brief hiatus we're back!
BCBL gives practitioners a chance to discuss and socialise with other knowledgeable professionals. Escape the permissioned vs. permission-less blockchain debate for a day and come to a place that understands your pain when the CSV file isn't escaped properly and it's not clear what what the comma in the FCA handbook really means.
Who are speakers? What topics?
BCBL will be run in the classic BarCamp format. We don't have speakers. The topics are whatever you want to talk about.
In the past we've taken up discussions about: the prospects for an Iranian oil exchange, what went wrong for digital bearer bonds, Zeus mobile malware, Hayek's Denationalisation of Money, M-PESA, flat-tailed financial returns and Russian money kiosks.
Who should attend?
Nerds.
More accurately, you should...
- Have an area of expertise. It doesn't need to be trendy or even technical. Mainframe sysadmins from the big six and chartered accountants are tragically under-represented at most events. You're the people we want attract.
- Don't turn up representing your employer (even if it's yourself) and no selling. It's on a Saturday for a reason.
- No overt politics until we get to the pub. And try to be civil when they inevitably occur.
