Introduction to Barcamp Paris
We hope to put together a Barcamp Paris around the theme of “Technology” to be held in Paris at the IIT-EU AA’s office on Saturday, the 10th of April between 10 - 1.30pm. We are aiming to have 30 attendees, including students, as part of this event. The event is mainly focused on promoting Barcamp Paris amongst the Indian community in Paris but others are equally welcome to participate. It has been proposed that the event will be free to attendees and the IIT-EU AA has generously offered to sponsor not just the venue but also a lunch for after the event.

Proposed objectives for Barcamp Paris include, and in no particular order,
To learn and share ideas, developments, innovations around technology
To meet like-minded people with a passion for technology
To learn about the IIT-EU Chapter and the networking opportunities it offers to members
About BarCamp
BarCamp is an international network of user generated ‘unconferences’ best described as open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants organised on the fly by attendees. The first BarCamps focused on such topics as early-stage web applications and related open source technologies.
For Barcamp Paris, we are proposing that the theme remain centered around technology with topics that can range from open source software, startups, UI design, entrepreneurship, robotics, mobile computing, bioinformatics, RSS through to social software and programming languages. In fact, any topic linked to technology whether is welcome.
How does a Barcamp work ?
The key element to a successful Barcamp is around user participation and collaboration. Participants will be encouraged to submit their topics whilst registering for the event via the registration form. After some general announcements to start off the event, there is an icebreaker where everyone gathers together in one space and goes around the room to introduce themselves with three tags to describe what they’re passionate about (or want to talk about). Following this, each participant will proceed to place a post-it note with these three tags on a whiteboard in an available time slot of which we approximate will be 30. A short description of how this was arrived at is below. These post-it notes may be then re-shuffled if required to preserve a balance of topics between the two rooms.
For individual presentations, we’re giving participants 10 minutes in total splitting this into 5 minutes for the presentation and 5 minutes for Q and A. The limited time for presentations is partly to accommodate everyone’s participation in presenting but also to keep the information sharing during the presentation snappy and relevant. Participants can also form teams to present if they would prefer it.
The number of slots in the schedule will depend on the total time available. As we are proposing that each slot be 10 minutes long, with a total speaking time of 2.5 hours with the additional hour spent on the ice-breaker and program scheduling, we will be able to structure the event around 30 slots in total or 15 slots per breakout room.

About the IIT-EU Alumni Association
The IIT-EU alumni association was created in August 2005 to network and coordinate IIT alumni living in Europe. The founding members of the IIT-EU have been living in Europe for several decades and have established their credentials in the European industry. It has its headquarters in France, and has local chapters around Europe, including Paris, France. In an effort to build its membership, not just amongst the IIT graduate community but also Indian graduates from other engineering and technical institutions, the IIT-EU AA is providing the venue and the funding, which includes a lunch, to make this event happen.
