What is a BarCamp?
BarCamp is a conference organized by people who are interested in sharing ideas in an open environment. It looks to network groups of people together with common interests and share information and ideas. You do not necessarily have to work in the fields covered, just show a general interest.
It is not a traditional conference and usually runs on an open grid format, with presenters choosing a time slot during the day when they arrive, usually 15-30 minutes long. BarCamp traditionally covers things like web apps, open-source technology, gaming, social media and more!
At BarCamp, participants are traditionally all expected to participate in some way. If you have cold feet about talking in front of everyone, why not help out in another way, or present with a friend!
BarCamp Addis Ababa 2010 will also be free to attend.
What is the story behind BarCamp Addis Ababa?
We heard about the different BarCamps being organized all over Africa and decided to take the step to participate and have a BarCamp of our own. Ethiopia has so much to offer and what better way to start talking and sharing than in a BarCamp!
We want to contribute in building a sustainable community for the tech crowd in Ethiopia and foster continuous innovation. That way we can put our heads together, share knowledge, create solutions and solve problems.
