BarcampGlasgow is back again and will be hosted by BBC Glasgow on Thursday 9th September, 5pm for 5.30pm start. The space available is ideal to faciliate an unconference style of event. Those new to barcamp are encouraged to read what to expect from a barcamp. While the sessions and talks will be decided at the event the broad theme will be: social media - public & private.
VENUE
BBC Scotland, 40 Pacific Quay Glasgow G51 1DA google map link .
The building will have internet access and use of projectors and screens for speakers ONLY.
TIME
5 for 5.30pm start
THEME
Participants will be free to set the agenda and topics of session/talks on the evening but to give the event a broad theme we thought of Social media: public and private.
Public and Private in two senses, The Government v Private sector web and the on going privacy issues concerning an indviduals data on both social networks and governement websites. For example, The bbc.co.uk website is one of the most visited and innovative on the web with its linked data/ semantic sites and the UK government was reported to have spent 130m on building and operating websites in the last year. Can this cash be spent better? How do startup pitch for public sector work? Are government sites crowding out startup innovation? Facebook continues to evolve its privacy setting, does it users really care? Can Governments really keep our data secure and private?
The event will cover three floors with breakout rooms. Two of the floors will be decicated to hosting the GRID sessions with the third being a informal networking area and it will host the 10min Pitches from 8 to 9pm. If you are startup, app. developer or have an idea you want to talk about for 10 mins put your name down here.
