Welcome to the organising page for CityCamp Melbourne. The purpose of this page is to allow us to do our planning and preparation openly and collaboratively.

It's early stages, and we're looking for organisers and volunteers at this point. If you would like to be involved as

  1. Organiser
  2. Volunteer (on the actual day)
  3. Sponsor (cash or in-kind, e.g. food or venue)

Then email CityCampMelb@gmail.com explaining your interest in CityCamp, and read on below to find out the many ways that you can help us.

If you'd like to wait and see, follow @citycampmelb on Twitter to receive updates.

Action Steps

  1. Create a one-pager on website
  2. Create paper one-pager
  3. Establish the Venue
  4. Manage the Catering
  5. Decide on event Timing

If you see bold words in the above list, it means that there is Heading below with that name where you can find more information

Theme

  1. Knowledge, Sharing Knowledge (considering the correlation with Knowledge Week, this is the top choice for now)
  2. Sustainability / Climate Change
  3. Social entrepreneurship
  4. Local Gov 2.0
  5. Citizen participation
  6. DIY government / DIY solutions /  “Do it ourselves”

Timing

  • November 20th or 21st - during Knowledge Week
    • TedXMelbourne is the 20th
    • Trampoline Day (other Melbourne-based inconference) was on a Sunday, which might set some expectation
    • It’s just that Sunday is not officially Knowledge Week, and many overseas participants may have left
  • 1 day event only

Venue

These are just ideas. Securing a venue is a priority.

  1. State Library
  2. Museum
  3. Town Hall
  4. Interesting arts spaces

Catering

Unconferences usually provide food of some part, and the quality of the food is usually directly proportional to attendee happiness

It's a good opportunity for a local food provider to show off their wares

Ideas Platform

  • “Use an “ideation platform” like UserVoice or IdeaScale to collect topic and project suggestions and let your campers vote for the topics and projects they like most.  This is a great way to focus your event.  Don’t discourage, however, break-out sessions that are of interest to only small groups.”

Sponsors

Money

  • Maximum sponsorship in this category will be limited to $500.00 as per CityCamp standard practice.
  • CityCamp recommends the following sponsorship levels:
    • CityCamp Partner @ $500
    • CityCamp Supporter @ $250
    • Friend of CityCamp @ no set amount (contributor’s choice)
  • We will try to avoid having any leftover money
  • Organisers and volunteers will not be paid for their time
  • Any leftover money will be held in a fund that will be used to seed future Australian City Camps.
  • Do we need a fiscal sponsor so that donations are tax deductible, and so that there is an independent bank account?

In-kind

  • Sponsorships may also be negotiated for in-kind donations
  • Opportunities for in-kind donation
    • Venue (can provide major sponsorship in exchange for venue)
    • Catering
    • Drinks
    • Live-streaming services
