Action Steps
- Create Graphics
- Create a One-pager on website
- Create paper One-pager
- Establish the Venue
- Manage the Catering
- Decide on event Timing
If you see bold words in the above list, it means that there is Heading below with that name where you can find more information
Theme
- Knowledge, Sharing Knowledge (considering the correlation with Knowledge Week, this is the top choice for now)
- Sustainability / Climate Change
- Social entrepreneurship
- Local Gov 2.0
- Citizen participation
- DIY government / DIY solutions / “Do it ourselves”
Timing
- November 20th or 21st - during Knowledge Week
- TedXMelbourne is the 20th
- Trampoline Day (other Melbourne-based inconference) was on a Sunday, which might set some expectation
- It’s just that Sunday is not officially Knowledge Week, and many overseas participants may have left
- 1 day event only
Venue
These are just ideas. Securing a venue is a priority.
- State Library
- Museum
- Town Hall
- Interesting arts spaces
Catering
Unconferences usually provide food of some part, and the quality of the food is usually directly proportional to attendee happiness. It's a good opportunity for a local food provider to show off their wares

Ideas Platform
- “Use an “ideation platform” like UserVoice or IdeaScale to collect topic and project suggestions and let your campers vote for the topics and projects they like most. This is a great way to focus your event. Don’t discourage, however, break-out sessions that are of interest to only small groups.”

Sponsors
Money
- Maximum sponsorship in this category will be limited to $500.00 as per CityCamp standard practice.
- CityCamp recommends the following sponsorship levels:
- CityCamp Partner @ $500
- CityCamp Supporter @ $250
- Friend of CityCamp @ no set amount (contributor’s choice)
- We will try to avoid having any leftover money
- Organisers and volunteers will not be paid for their time
- Any leftover money will be held in a fund that will be used to seed future Australian City Camps.
- Do we need a fiscal sponsor so that donations are tax deductible, and so that there is an independent bank account?
In-kind
- Sponsorships may also be negotiated for in-kind donations
- Opportunities for in-kind donation
- Venue (can provide major sponsorship in exchange for venue)
- Catering
- Drinks
- Live-streaming services

CityCamp Melbourne
Gov 2.0 goes local
Background
CityCamp is an “un-conference” about innovation between government and community organisations. Un-conferences are formatted for creative and open exchange geared toward action. Event activities are developed and organised by participants. You can play an active role by nominating yourself as a presenter on the day.
The trends towards Open Government will be a strong theme for CityCamp Melbourne. Increased public participation in government through new online technologies is already leading to improved service delivery in both the US and Australia.
The first CityCamp was held in Chicago, Illinois and was inspired by previous events such as Transparency Camp and Gov 2.0 Camp. Organisers have now launched a CityCamp World Tour, and events are already planned in New York, San Francisco, London, Barcelona, and St. Petersburg
Visit CityCamp.com to see the latest locations, and to learn more about the movement.
Melbourne Details
CityCamp Melbourne is currently scheduled for the weekend of November 20th or 21st, tying in with the Melbourne Knowledge World Summit and Knowledge Week. The proposed theme of the event is 'How Can We Make Civic Data Social?'.
During the event, government representatives and the public will collaborate and share their ideas, projects and solutions. CityCamp will contribute towards a community of civic-minded technologists, social entrepreneurs, and progressive municipal officials.
As a free globally-networked un-conference CityCamp Melbourne can help shape Melbourne's future - but only with your help!
How to get involved
- Organiser - Help plan and promote the event, and get to know some great people in the process
- Sponsor - Donate up to $500 or contribute in-kind resources and get exposure for your brand (logo posted on the website and displayed at the event, plenary mentions)
- Volunteer - Be part of something special and put your hand up to help on the day
- Attendee - Come along, get inspired, and perhaps even inspire others with your own presentation
