ALF? BarCamp? Read this First!

Several years ago, various LUGs around Alabama decided that with the departure of Atlanta Linux Showcase, we should come together and have a day of festivities. We really didn't know what to expect. But the turn out and activities helped create several successful Alabama LUG Fests. We hope to continue the same success this year and spread the fun to even more people who are interested in having fun with other persons interested in the same topics.

Last year at LUGFest 2007 it took the form of a BarCamp -- a BarCamp is an "un-conference" where people interested in a wide range of topics come together to teach and learn. Unfamiliar with the un-conference format? Here's the idea in a nutshell: Rather than having scheduled speakers, everyone pitches session ideas a few weeks before the BarCamp. Those sessions are put on a schedule, and lots of little groups form for intense group learning. Everyone is expected to teach, to talk, to participate. For being a put together real fast it went very well.

The LUGFest 2008 wiki site is up and ready to be updated – simply add your name to the Participants (aka Campers) section. We also need attendees to present on a topic. Not all attendees have to present, but the more the better. So if you are willing to present on a topic of your choosing (as long as it is somewhat related to Linux, OpenSource, and technology in general) please add the presentation topic and your name to the Proposed Sessions section below. In addition, if you have any ideas for presentation, please add these to the Topics I would like to hear about list. The presentations should be approximately 30 minutes or 50 minutes in length. Please let us know (via the wiki) about your plans to present by 18 October 2008 so we can get the location and other details finalized. If we do not have enough presenters, the event will be cancelled. Remember, you can partner up with others to do a presentation – you don't have to go it alone.
