BarCampAdelaide is part of BarCampAustralia.
What is a BarCamp?
In general terms, BarCamp is a conference organised by the people that is totally non-profit. No one is paid for their time, no one is charged to come and no profits are made. It looks to network groups of people together and also share information and knowledge with people who are interested in the same thing. You do not necessarily have to work in the fields covered, just show a general interest!
BarCamp traditionally covers things like early-stage web applications, and related open source technologies and social protocols, through open, paticipatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by the participants. Generally, if you attend, you are expected to present.
Don't be afraid! The next BarCamp will not have this as a requirement to increase the participation levels. The fields will be widened to include gaming, general tech and the arts. With game ratings and internet filtering a very hot topic, the expansion to cover most areas seemed obvious.
The first BarCampAdelaide was held on the 3rd and 4th of March, 2007 and the last one was held on the 21st of February, 2009 with great success.
Have a look at Wikipedia for some more information on what BarCamps are.
We are looking for a venue and some possible sponsors for the proposed BarCamp in 2010. If you know anyone that could possibly help out, please do let us know!

Who is behind BarCamp?
"As the last BarCamp in Adelaide was over 18 months ago, I decided after seeing the reports of such events in other states that it was time Adelaide had one again. With no one stepping forward to take up the organisation, it seems like the perfect time to get something like this underway, so I've put my hand up to lead the show. The social networking phenomenon is growing in Adelaide - though we're slower to make the jump to groupmeet like other states, we are now adapting the rules to get the right amount of participation and to draw people out of the woodwork. If we work this one right, we'll get a great response, great sponsors and an excellent unconference." - Monique Kleine [Monique can be contacted through the Facebook Group.]
Planning Meeting
Anyone who is interested in helping to organise should try to attend the planning meeting on December 1st (sorry about the late notice). Event can be found through the Facebook Group Page.
Who, What, Where, When
- Who? Anyone who is interested in technology, the Internet and several related topics, covered in an unconference style.
- What? A good opportunity for the many flavours of geeks in Adelaide to share ideas and projects. You don't have to contribute, you just have to be interested.

- When? The last one was held on 3rd-4th March, 2007. We're looking to hold the next one in early 2009.
