Attendees

Presenting (alpha by last name):

  • Michael Bernstein
    • I plan to facilitate the Sunday 4pm roundtable on Local Open Source
    • I can do another python-related talk, see below in the 'maybe presenting' section
  • Reid Givens
  • Chris Kenworthy
  • Frank LaFond
  • Emily Lewis
  • Daniel Lyons - I'm going to present, but I'd like to know what would be most interesting to people:
    • REST (Representational State Transfer)
      • REST, definitely. -- Michael
    • Advanced PostgreSQL, probably specifically using views and triggers.
    • Haskell or some other fringe language.
      • Bend our minds - Haskell maybe?. -- Frank
  • Jack Moffitt - What start-up topics would people like to hear about? Building on open source? Working with a distributed team? Hiring? I could also talk about Amazon Web Services (EC2 and S3 in particular), perhaps.
    • I'd be most interested in: 'Building a startup on Open Source', but also other startup-related topics (other than EC2 and S3, unless you have a particularly interesting case study). -- Michael Bernstein
    • I'm quite interested in what you have to say about XMPP. -- DKL
      • He's doing a 'startup' talk in addition to his XMPP talk. -- Michael Bernstein
      • I'm thinking we can use some of the thoughts generated by the Saturday presentation for a roundtable Sunday -- erw
  • Rich Murray
  • Gabriel Ortiz
  • Eric Renz-Whitmore -- I plan to help (can facilitate) w/ 4PM Saturday Roundtable on Opportunities for collaboration; 1PM Sunday Roundtable on Energizing local startup activity.
  • David Thomas - Linux and Nagios Can't make Saturday will be there on Sunday
  • Adam Thomas - Scratch programming for kids Can't make Saturday will be there on Sunday

  • Jonathan Price, HotText, interested in faceted analysis, taxonomies, info architecture, content management, and writing for the web

  • Minh D. Tran

Maybe Presenting (alpha by last name):

  • David Baird
    • Maybe web-based diagram editing (the inspiration well is running a little dry, so not sure I'll be ready in time)
  • Michael Bernstein - Might present. Some possible topics, please indicate interest!:
    • Something Python-related, such as Google App Engine, or Zope (I could repeat my recent OSCON talk on 'Hidden treasures of the Zope3 Community')?
      • I'd like to know more about the Zope situation. -- DKL
        • You mean a 'State of Zope' talk? Not sure that would have broad appeal. -- Michael Bernstein
    • - Something design-related, maybe an overview of CSS grid frameworks, or the dojo.gfx library? -
  • Adin Burroughs -- Don't think anyone's really interested in my areas of expertise, but if anyone indicates interest, I can always present about:
    • Distributed Interactive Simulations (realtime, mainly the DIS protocol though HLA could be discussed)
      • DIS sounds interesting. What implementations are available? -- Michael Bernstein
      • Seconded. -- DKL
      • I've been interested in hearing an explanation of HLA, DEVS, or other (DIS?) from someone who actually knows something about it. - David Baird
      • DIS sounds cool --erw
    • Tactical Datalinks and/or how to simulate them (I wrote the SISO standard for simulating Link-16/JTIDS)
    • Training Domestic Felines, Feline Behavior, Common problems and solutions.
      • Ha! Herding Cats! -- Michael Bernstein
        • LOL, actually, you motivate them to herd themselves, just takes learning the multivariate language! ...And internal/external motivators...and memory characteristics ;) -- adin
          • Go for it, sounds interesting. -- Michael Bernstein
    • Why the Indian Cultural Center is probably the largest independent solar power producer in NM
  • Mark Casias -- Would love to talk JS libraries with people. Actually, jQuery in particular. Any interest? My title would be "The first rule about the AJAX Language is there is no AJAX Language". I can go right after lunch so everyone has a nice nap..
    • Sounds great! -- Michael Bernstein
    • We use a lot of JavaScript at Chesspark, and I'd love to swap stories. We've used mootools, prototype, and jQuery, as well as our own libraries like Strophe.
  • Michael Odza - may present on a plan to make money from new social networks without depending on advertising. Will try to bring a whiteboard--I need to buy one anyway.
  • Eric Renz-Whitmore -- will bring projector; likely presenter (esp. like the roundtable topics).
