BarCampApache - Meritocracy in Action, BarCamp Style.

The next BarCampApache is at ApacheCon NA 2011 in Vancouver, BC. This time we're splitting things over two days, on 8-November (Tuesday), and also on 12-November (the following Saturday, for weekend folks).  For the Tuesday event, there's no need to sign up in advnace! Simply come along from 10am and sign up on the door. For the Saturday event, please sign up at http://apachecamp.eventbrite.com/. Both events are associated with ApacheCon NA 2011.

The next BarCampApache is in Vancouver, BC on Tuesday 8th and Saturday 12th November!

So what is BarCampApache?

ApacheCon North America 2011 will be host its own pair of unconferences! Coinciding with the traditional Apache Hackathon, BarCampApache is a dynamic get together open to the public. Like other unconferences, the schedule will be determined by the participants.

This year, as an extension of ApacheCon, we're hosting two BarCamps! One is on the Tuesday during the conference itself (though it's open to everyone, attendee or local). The other is on the Saturday afterwards, at The Hive, to which we hope many more local Apache users and developers will be able to attend. Note that many of the regular attendees of ApacheCon will be participating in both the BarCamps itself, so we're looking forward to cross pollination with new communities.

Both events are free. There's no need to sign up in advance for the Tuesday BarCamp, instead just come along for 10am and sign up at the registration desk. For the Saturday, we're more limited on space, so please sign up in advance at http://apachecamp.eventbrite.com/ to save your space!

This is an ideal opportunity to seek out people of like mind. At a BarCamp, you can talk about anything you think people will be interested in, and it need not be Apache-specific. How about telling us about your favorite project, how to enjoy yourself in Vancouver, survival tips for one's first month on an ASF list, why you love your job, why you hate your job, etc. There will be plenty of space to break off and continue discussion with people of like mind.

Since BarCampApache both precedes and follows the main conference, you might want to register for the conference as well. You may also want to consider attending the special events and especially the free MeetUps that will be held in the evenings after the main conference tracks.

So what is The Apache Software Foundation?

Established in 1999, The Apache Software Foundation provides organizational, legal, and financial support for a broad range of Open Source software projects, including Apache HTTP Server -- the world's most popular Web server software for more than a decade. The Foundation provides an established framework for intellectual property and financial contributions that simultaneously limits contributors' potential legal exposure. Through a collaborative and meritocratic development process, Apache projects deliver enterprise-grade, freely available software products that attract large communities of users. The pragmatic Apache License makes it easy for all users, commercial and individual, to deploy Apache products.
