Session Topics

What do you want to hear about?

Or talk about?

BarCamp is a conference with a difference.

At BarCamp, anyone can present. Presenting is actively encouraged. Talks can be as short or as long as you like. We've scheduled to accommodate 45 min. presentations, to occur concurrently in up to as many as 3 rooms at a time.

You can use slides, a web connection, or go commando.

Talks can be technical or non-technical.

The BarCamp ethos is about sharing information. There is no overriding theme to the conference. If you would like to talk at BarCampSaskatoon2007 sign-up below now or sign-up on the day, just be sure to let us know that you'll be in attendance (and before Sept. 15, so you can get your free t-shirt!).

Talk:

  1. Ginger Koolick - Women in technology, rewards and challenges.
  2. Ryan Lejbak - Streaking audio/video... Sorry, I meant streaming audio and video. A look at the options available for live streaming, some quick tutorials and discussion about how to monetize these technologies for you and your clients.
  3. Jason Ish - Open source licensing, overview and issues. If possible, I'd like to get a feeling for the interest in the topic (ish@unx.ca).
  4. Albert Jame - Pitch and Play: Anyone have a great new website they want to show off. The floor is yours. Present your new idea or already created web project in front of people who won't say "nice, but can you make the logo spin?". Please contact albertj@zu.com with your idea or project and I'll get you into to the program.
  5. Deirdre Bonnycastle Active Learning in Web 2.0
  6. Ralph Deters - From Web 1.0 -> Web 2.0 – Experiences with Web Services and Flex
  7. Alec Couros with able assistance from Rob Wall - Expanding Learning Communities Using Free/Open and Web 2.0 Collaborative Tools
  8. Heather Ross - Old-time apprenticeship meets 21st Century technology - the amazing stuff happening with industrial training in Saskatchewan.
  9. Bart Nikota - open Source CMS demo -Joomla!, and/or IT Security
  10. Quinn Merio - I heard someone ask for a beginners rundown on the joy of AJAX/Javascript. How about a few good reasons to move your web scripts to an Object Oriented paradigm. I am game to discuss. Potentially, as well I am open to discussing web standards, and how you can use Semantic Markup and CSS to get the thrill of the box model. (And why tables are not always bad!)
  11. Shane Giroux, Cory Jacobsen, Ryan Lejbak - hacking the iPhone and developing for the iPhone. We'll do a demo and show some design tricks.
  12. Allan Dowdeswell - I'll do a demo of different Actionscript-based animation methods in Flash.
  13. Pete Quily - Adult Attention Deficit Disorder Coach from Vancouver BC, will present via iChat on The Attention Surplus Condition in Technology. More info to follow on Pete coming on the blog soon.

Hear:

Is there something you'd like hear about at BarCampSaskatoon2007? Make it known here...

  1. Ryan Lejbak - I would love to hear from anyone who has experience developing apps or widgets for iPhone.
  2. What is the future of social media?
  3. Developing apps for Facebook.
  4. Would someone talk/demo open-source CMS systems?
  5. Could somone talk about AJAX and JavaScript, from a beginners-intermediate point of view?
  6. Web Standards, what's with the controversy? And where do we go from here?
  7. Open source learning management systems (Moodle, Atutor, etc.) Vs. Web CT/Blackboard?
  8. Web Gurus - who feeds our readers & why we watch - Scobel, Molly, Tantek, Pater, etc. Others?
  9. Microformats - in depth description, still confusing to some.
  10. Geek Managers - What REALLY motivates programmers? Beer, pizza, sexy back rubs, $$$, new hardware, access to management... I'm interested to hear about this, not from a managerial point of view, but from a programmer or other worker in the trenches.
  11. Communication options - What works and how to easily set up for podcasts, webinars etc. Any experience on level of acceptance for this from general public. ( Talk to Nathan Koch, He(I) has experience in this topic )
