BarCampBrisbane organisation page for organisers to throw in ideas.

Possible Dates

24th Nov

Venues

I have contacted Merthyr Bowls Club, New Farm Bowls Club, Booroodabin Bowls Club and East Brisbane Bowls Club and the only one with availability in November is East Brisbane Bowls Club (Mowbray Park Lytton Road).

Listed below are the details:

Availability of Saturdays in November: 24th Nov

Rental for Seminar hall: $150

Cost for bare foot bowling: $15 Per person

BBQ lunch and dinner:

They provide a light lunch including Tea, Coffee and Sandwich: $10 per person.

BBQ lunch/dinner (including barefoot bowls): $ 20 per person. You can have BBQ for lunch or dinner.

Alcohol packages: Their alcohol packages are as cheap as a public bar. The charges per person vary according to the consumption.

Plan for the day

The emphasis was to try and interact technical sessions with social sessions.

So kick off at about 10:00AM and then have several sessions before lunch and then several between lunch and dinner.

Sample Letter

Hello Fellow Queenslanders!

I'm writing to you because I think you might be interested in the concept of BarCamp: an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees.

Organisation for a BarCamp includes finding a few sponsors who will provide a venue, Internet access, food and drink. Barcamps are sometimes 2 days events so most people bring a sleeping bag and stay overnight, the venue provider should be able to cater for this if we decide on this format.

We've started the organisation for BarCampBrisbane, there is similar work going on BarCampMelbourne, BarCampCanberra & BarCampSydney. The event will obviously take place somewhere in Brisbane and we will hopefully synchronise our event with one of the other states and hook up with them in some way during the weekend.

We welcome any questions you might have about this, and encourage you to forward this email to anyone you feel might be interested. For further information, please see the BarCamp wiki pages:

We also now have our own site at http://barcampbrisbane.org and a mailing list at http://groups.google.com/group/barcampbrisbane so it's easy to get involved.

Kind regards,

BarCamp Brisbane Unorganisers
