Microsoft and Open Source
One of the most surprising highlight from this year's Open Source Conference is Microsoft. Yes, Microsoft now also supports Open Source. I mentioned this to a few of my friends and none of them felt it made sense. Though I cannot make everyone travel through time and space to OSCON in Portland, Oregon, we will have the Platform Strategy Lead from Microsoft, Gary Sweeting, to explain to us what is it all about.
I must also explain that I am not in anyway associated with Microsoft except I use some of the products. In contrary, I am Free/Open Source researcher and supporter and I am using more and more Free Software everyday. My motivation is that rather than making conclusion based on preconceptions and hearsays, I hope everyone can understand more on this important issue when we get information first-hand from Microsoft. I will present my doubt, conspiracy theory and critique on Microsoft strategy in the same session as well.
We intend to hold this session in the morning and we also hope to get an one-hour slot due to the amount of material covered and the importance of the issue.

Learnings from Barcamp HK 2007
Colin Colvia: "marketing via widgets. it's interesting. I notice this movement by 1-2 years ago. Many marketing campaign focus on expandable banner which contain more information than traditional banner and landing site become supportive to the banner. widgets+google analytic is a new marketing tool.
btw, adobe provide ad service in pdf..

我同意用自己的母語主講.. ^^
I prefer speaking in cantonese!
Ben Lee: "It is now just one month after the last Barcamp. But when I meet people in recent ICT events, people keep asking me when would be the next BarCamp. There are some concerns that we should take care of:
1. Our Email campaign should be more aggressive. Some participants reflect that they do not surf around web sites a lot. They are informed only because of the late ICT ( HKPC ) mass mail. Some others such as OAKA suggest that they would be happy to forward Barcamp event information to their larger pool of subscribers.
2. New rule: Please DO speak with Cantonese/Mandarin if that is your mother tongue !
Don't switch to English, let the audience to help each other.
3. Everyone should help to tidy up the venue.
There are also many other ideas already reflected on the blog posts about barcamp hk.
Your turn, speak up please !
I work freelance in assisting schools to use educational technology. I really have to say this is a bit like working to try to sell pork in Tel Aviv! Hong Kong is an enigma where everyone drips with technology and the latest gadgets and, for the most part, students leave it at the door and worship textbooks and worksheets in lessons. I would be really happy to demo some technology that is being used in international and overseas schools and is just starting to make some inroads to a very few forward-thinking schools here. There are some great Web 2.0 tools that are being used by students for global collaboration etc. Maybe a sharing of some of these would be good as some probably need to be picked up and translated so that Hong Kong schools could use them. Just a thought! Paul McMahon
Hmm... Really don't know if anyone is reading this as there are no comments or replies. I now have to do something else in the morning but will roll up in the afternoon. Would really love it if someone can tell me if I need to bring screen, projector etc?
上次的經驗是十五分鐘不能說明一些技術問題, 所以主題是引發大家的興趣會更好
