Please provide a short profile of yourself which will help you and others to come up with topics for the day

  • Conor O'Neill, Argolon. Involved in software development since 1992. Started in embedded software with S3 in Dublin, then Integral Design, followed by Xilinx. Did a startup called Advanticus in 2002. Switched to enterprise software in 2003 with EMC and founded Argolon the same year. After a short stint in the security world with Mcafee, I'm back in startup mode and building a new webapp for launch early 2007. Current interests include agile languages, microformats, marketing (and early stage funding :-) )

  • David Copithorne, Waveson. First paying job in software dev. was for Iona Tech. in 1999 as a UCC co-op. After college joined as one the first employees of a mobile top-up distribution business, YQ, where I managed embedded software development, product design and manufacturing and back office development. Left YQ after a number of years to work as a contractor for Vodafone Ireland. Over the summer, with Stephen Higgins, founded Waveson. Interests include social software, microformats, and all startup related issues.

  • Keith Bohanna, dbTwang. Not a developer. Not a techie! Entrepreueur (with varying degrees of success). Was closely involved in niche marketing business in UK, niche manufacturing business there as well and for 2 1/2 years here in a start-up that raised nearly 400k in angel investment and was aimed at a US market. Now co-founder of dbTwang - the web based service place for guitar collectors and enthusiasts - that will launch (behind schedule) by end of year.

  • Elly Parker, ellybabes. Based more on the IT Support and Development end of things (but yet not very technical...), I run a secure web-based construction collaboration system for a 'global semiconductor industry giant' based in Leixlip (google it if you're not sure!). I deal with the major construction projects ($5M - $300M) and look after their data integrity and security. Outside of work, attempting to develop my own website and blog. I'm also involved in neighbours.ie, a new space for neighbours and communities to mix & meet online.

  • Eoghan McCabe, Naive by Design. Freelance web designer based in Dublin. Interested in building sites with super-simple interfaces and creating small web apps that make people happy.

  • Gavin Byrne, NEARfm/The Media Co-op I've been involved with community media for over 11 years and have been developing community IT and TV projects with The Media Co-op who run NEARfm in Dublin.

  • Robert Synnott, Blog I'm a fourth year computer science student in Trinity. I'm just finishing up working for Demonware, a computer games network middleware company. I'm not really a web developer (I've done bits and pieces from time to time, most recently PoliticsInIreland), but I'm interested in out-of-the-ordinary approaches to writing web applications.

  • Paul O Mahony, Siopa Eile Intranet developer and blogger. Currently working on a number of projects. A Guide to Online Ireland is a blog that attempts to show people how to make optimal use of the internet. It also includes a unique shopping directory which offers an extensive list of the best shopping sites in Ireland. This directory is a subset of the Open Irish Directory. I have also recently started a new blog called Siopa Eile, which highlights unique online products from Ireland and Europe mainly. I am looking at developing this into a network of shopping blogs under the Siopa Eile brand.

  • George Pratt, Just me Last October I began blogging as a way to distract myself while quitting cigarette's (it worked) I kinda lost interest in that blog and to be fair once I had quit the cigarettes it had served it's purpose. In August, I re-discovered what I was missing and started my current Blog Just me not smoking :)

  • Siasy Collins, EuropeanIrish.com blog I've developed and expanded EuropeanIrish.com  - an online resource for the Irish in Continental Europe. Running on a shoestring budget - voluntarily for the past 3 yrs, It has become the Central Online resource in Europe for: Irish Music, Sport and Cultural News, Events, AND Irish Music, Dancing, and Festivals in Europe, Irish Clubs & Irish Pubs in Europe, etc... Problem - it's static - not dynamic - I'm looking for a content management solution. Since EuropeanIrish.com was setup, content was my focus as opposed to tech dev - it is therefore static, requiring alot of manual time - and I am still only learning about the blogging, content mgt systems, dynamic web-tools, XML, CSS, XSL, RSS, PHP - etc. AND looking at building up the Community / Networking of Irish across Europe. So this is me and where I am, Hi, I'm Siasy.
