BarCampKC
Last year Trozollo held a BarCamp in Kansas City called BigIdeacamp-KansasCity that was geared toward facilitating collaboration between young entrepreneurs.
BarCampKC will be a similar effort but grassroots and aimed more generally at innovative business and technology teams or individuals in the Kansas City area who want to share something about their own project(s) and learn a thing or two from other presenters. For now there's no restriction on content though we may narrow down the theme as the date gets closer.
The BarCampKC setup will stray slightly from the format in that instead of planning sessions the same day they're happening we're going to have a Friday-Saturday structure where Friday serves as a meet-and-greet that lasts a couple hours and during which we 'll pull out a pad of poster paper at some point to schedule the sessions we're all going to present and/or attend the following day (Saturday). Also unlike BarCamps proper we won't be camping out. We'll just meet somewhere Friday to schedule the sessions, go home, then meet up again Saturday to go wherever it is we end up hosting the sessions.
We'll keep logistics to a minimum and plan on finding a place with at least 6 "session areas" that can accommodate groups of 8, plus some kind of common area for a coffee carafe and whatever other refreshments we buy ourselves or might receive from sponsors.
To date we're just contacting local organizations in case any of their members/employees might be interested in participating. There is certainly room for particpants not affiliated with a local company/organization as well.
Sites marked with the "barcampkc" can be picked up in this feed at delicious.com. We can also use it afterward to tag presentation materials uploaded to various places post-BarCampKC. In the meantime feel free to add to it as you get moments.
We're shooting for 30-50 participants.
