BarCampManchester Meeting Summaries

This page will provide a brief summary of any meetings to organize BarCampManchester. In an effort to keep track of who's involved, both attendees and people who were interested but couldn't attend will be listed.

May 11th Meeting

Attendees: Ian Muir, Margo Burns, Dave Seah, Lisa Ericson, Chris Haddad

Interested, but couldn't attend: Greg Corrin, Rama Atiya, Andrew Desmarias, Bill Cava, Kelley Muir

BarCamp Overview

Ian discussed some of the ideas behind a barcamp and gave an overview of some of the planning that's already occured. Some ideas he proposed included having a keynote or main session to get things started and to make the camp open to students.

Possible Venues

Possible venues for the barcamp were discussed. Venue ideas included the following:

    • Unwined in Bedford
    • Jillians in Manchester
    • CR Sparks in Bedford
    • The Old NH Insurance Building
    • Deka or Segway (Dean Kamen's companies)
    • Hesser College
    • Waumbec Mill

Sponsors

A few businesses have expressed interest in sponsoring barcamp. The barcamp will likely need sponsors in the following areas:

    • Venue
    • Lunch/Food
    • TShirts & Shwag
    • Prizes for Contest
    • Evening Event / Other

Education in NH

Margo talked about her work with educators and technology requirements in NH. She explained that the state sets many requirements, but doesn't provide enough resources to accomplish them. Educators usually work with open-source tools and have to come up with a lot of creative solutions. Margo feels that BarCampManchester would appeal to educators.

Idea Brainstorming

A good amount of time was spent on brainstorming. The results are posted on the BarCampManchester page in the session and events sections.

Dry Runs

Dave reccomended that we try a few dry runs of presentations and panels. This would help get an idea of how they might flow and help to generate interest in the barcamp.
