Thanks, Dan!

Pack your sleeping bags! We are having a MiniBarCamp at the Mobile and Embedded Developer Days (MEDD) conference!

The BarCampME (ME == Mobile & Embedded) MiniBarCamp runs from 8:30 PM Wednesday January 23rd to 8:30 AM Wednesday January 24th. This is between the evening of the first day and the morning of the second day of the conference.

The MEDD conference focuses on mobile and embedded technologies. This MiniBarCamp bridges the two days of the conference. You don't have to be a MEDD attendee to participate. However, you might want to attend both simply for continuity, and because MEDD attendees will get first dibs if space runs low.

Your MiniBarCamp hosts Dan and Sean on the very beanbags Dan has secured for our crashing comfort!

Why at the MEDD conference?

Months ago, I asked the MEDD organizers if we could have a BarCamp between the two days of the conference. I've made a lot of friends in the Java space, there are going to be some really interesting technologies shown at this conference, and I'm flying all the way across the country to get here.

With all the cool and interesting people at this conference, were people just going to go back to their hotel rooms after the first night, crack open the minibar and watch pay per view? No! That's why Roger Brinkley and Terrence Barr, the MEDD organizers, agreed to put a BarCamp on the MEDD agenda.

But we were having trouble with the camping out in the Sun offices part. It was beginning to look like BarCamp was going to be me and my buddy Dan Green from Sun, geeking out in the Sun offices until we passed out, and telling Sun security, if asked, that we were working on a project due the next day.

But no more! Dan pulled a huge favor from a secret contact at an undisclosed source deep within Sun. We now not only have space, but we also have a legitimate MiniBarCamp, complete with Pizza and even... those colorful beanbag chairs from JavaOne!

Dan, we owe you for making this real!

Theme

The theme for this MiniBarCamp is "What Cool And Creative Things Really Float Your Boat?"

The MEDD conference is a collection of really smart people immersed in the latest in mobile and embedded Java technology. What a great opportunity to find out what cool technical and creative things people are doing either in their own work or on the side, that they are really excited about.

Since BarCamp is an interactive experience, MiniBarCamp attendees should be prepared to speak in detail about some aspect of their life which they really dig. If you have something to show and tell, bring it!

Take a look at TheRulesOfBarCamp. That's the general idea but I don't think we're going to get too wrapped up in rules. There will be a sign-up sheet at the MEDD conference and at the beginning of the MiniBarCamp for presenting slots.

If you are looking for ideas, simply look at cool things you do, put together a presentation about one of them, and if you can, bring examples with you to pass around.

The idea is this: This is a close community and we are among friends. Lets learn more about each other and the cool and creative things we're all doing.
