BarCampMontreal2 Demo Schedule / L'horaire des demonstrations

  2. Ara Pehlivanian - "When your HTML shouldn't be" - Strategies on keeping pseudo-content out of your markup
  3. Growwwing - TBA
  4. Damien Di Fede - MUJAX: A psuedo-MUD using the ever popular AJAX technique
  5. EvanProdromou - About the Keiki Project (kei.ki)
  6. www.mycarpoolstation.com - We supply web-based carpool stations to schools, workplaces, and regions in the U.S. and Canada.
  7. Angel Anduaga - Podtattoo Laser Labs permanently laser etches any iPod/laptop/cellphone with any pic/logo/font you provide http://podtattoo.com
  8. Sylvain Carle - Parralel Entrepreneurship and a few peeks a two of my startups...
  9. Francois Lane - Cake Mail - Fully customizable white label email marketing platform http://www.servecake.com/
  10. HughMcGuire - Starting-Up: mistakes I've made so far (someone remind me to do 50% of presentation en francais, pls)
  11. HughMcGuire - atwater digital media project (am I allowed to do 2 presentations?)
    1. SimonLaw: Please pick the one you like best, in order to give other people a chance to present. Of course, if we have enough time, I don't see why we can't squeeze another one in.
  12. Paul Wouters - DNSSEC 101: Or "How the Department of Homeland Security is NOT going to control your domains" http://www.xelerance.com/
  13. Sylvain Carle - Ce que j'ai appris à San Franciso durant le Web 2.0 Expo (avec les développeurs, les marketeurs et les VCs)
  14. Avery Pennarun - Versabox or Schedulator or Designing a Company Culture, depending on interest
  15. Dave Coombs - Digital Security on Airplanes, and Why You Care
  16. Michele Ann Jenkins - Wikis, Web 2.0 and Information Architecture: Wikitravel Extra
  17. Nelson Ko - (5 min) Maybe "What I learned from Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco" but this is the same as Sylvain's above, so maybe "5 steps to grow online community - in 5 minutes."
  18. Madame Woo - My boyfriend was a gay porn star, or Everything you wanted to know about the sex trade in Thailand but were afraid to ask.
    1. Anonymous: WHAT THE HELL does this have to do with technology?
    2. Anonymous: DUDE, have you been on the Internet lately?
    3. SimonLaw: I have two issues with your question, Anonymous Coward. My first is that your criticism is offensive and non-constructive. The second is that BarCampMontreal has always benefited from talks outside the scope of technology. Shouldn't we be encouraging topics that expand our horizons?
    4. SylvainCarle : well I also have issues about this topic. As opened as I am to diversity and learning new things, this is really not something I am interested in learning. Maybe we could have a "side track" for these kind of subject, stay open for them but not as the core content of barcamp? Anyone with opinions regarding this session?
    5. SimonLaw: This is a good point, Sylvain. DavidCrow mentions that TorCamp has had problems with things such as a narrow focus on topics and the fact that many presentations are thinly veiled sales demos. I think for now, it is good for BarCamp to veer on the side of diversity because it can give us novel ideas that relate to whatever you're interested in. And if you really dislike what's going on, you can talk with the presenter afterwards about why you were upset. I see a lot of people get really excited when they hear someone talking about "weird" topics like starting a business, or open-source cinema, or connecting communities to artists.
    6. SylvainCarle : well, as long as we agree that veering towards pornography and sex trade is *not* something we want to promote as the core content of barcamp and we have a parrallel "exploration" track, I think we are ok with this. I think we still maybe want to err more on the safe side, but that's a personnal call, I don't know what the rest of the participants think. Maybe we could have a community vote on the presentations where such a flag is raised (à la Flickr "flag this as offensive").
    7. EvanProdromou: So, I'm of two minds about this talk, but I'd like to err on the side of openness and diversity. I'm less concerned with being shocked at sexual content than with being complicit in the objectification of women or children. I hope that M. Woo is ready for a difficult crowd...

Do we still restrict the presentations to 15 minutes? Je pense que ça a bien marché la dernière fois... Aussi je propose un nouveau format, des "high five", des toutes petites présentations de 5 minutes, share a tip, a trick, an information with the community. That should be fun and entertaining and gives a small step opportunity to someone that could prefer this mini-format. I also have a few roundtables/panels to prepare, got some interest in "girls in tech" panel from a few potential participants... --SylvainCarle
