Count me in. What's next? - SamRosen
Hey guys. I've met with Stan Schwartz, another near-Philly resident interested in pulling the tech-entrepreneur community out of the woodwook around Philadelphia. We think a good first step is to start a mailing list of folks working/living around Philly. Leave your email address on this page, and I will include you in the first note I send out. Thanks.
For motivation, Stan told me about these two articles which kind of diss Philadelphia as a place to start a tech company:
How to Be Silicon Valley: http://www.paulgraham.com/siliconvalley.html
Quote: "It would be a waste of time to try to reverse the fortunes of a declining industrial town like Detroit or Philadelphia by trying to encourage startups."
Startup Radar: http://radar.oreilly.com/archives/2006/06/startup_centers.html
Point of Interest: This follows through with some nice graphs showing how few tech jobs and specifically startup jobs there are in Philadelphia.
Let's prove them wrong, guys!
I did some activism around the BPT with Philadelphia Forward, but we won't attract tech unless we build it organically. Please sign me up for the list, and feel free to contact me at sam@verticalitygroup.com.
