RecentChangesCamp Info (archived)

Please see http://RecentChangesCamp.org

Following WikiSym2005 we agreed to convene a wiki BarCamp in Portland Oregon February 3-5, 2006 to provide yet another great space for the community to gather for work and play! We're using OpenSpaceTechnology to create an event that is as open and accessible as possible. We chose the first part of 2006 in order to complement Wikimania2006 and WikiSym2006. RecentChangesCampEurope 2006 is a sister camp that will happen simultaneously.

Proposed Locations

Please post information here on possible venues for BarCampPortland.

*Note: location depends on:

    • Number of people coming
    • Atmosphere - (noisy/Quiet , write on the walls, break into groups)
    • Food - Can food be part of the process
    • Duration - How long is the BarCamp

  • PSU has provided rooms for LUG and other groups in the past
    • To get a free room at PSU all you need is a student group or dept to sponsor our event (ask Nick Ames about groups that would sponsor)
  • Hotels often have meeting facilities
  • the FirstLegoLeague uses K12 schools for events
  • How about Urban Grind? We have the Portland Podcasting meetups there, and it's a great space, very geek community friendly.
  • Jax Bar has been friendly to PLUG for Advanced Topics meetings and POSSE is moving its meeting there. I believe there is a $200 fee or $200 purchase minimum, which isn't usually too hard to make with enough people. They also have WiFi.
  • Free Geek might let us use their facility.
