A BarCamp is an unconference where people interested in a wide range of technologies come together to teach and learn. Unfamiliar with unconference? Here's the idea in a nutshell. Rather than having scheduled speakers, everyone pitches sessions the morning of the BarCamp. Those sessions are put on a schedule, and lots of little groups form for intense group learning. Everyone is expected to teach, to talk, to participate. Yeah, its different from a regular conference - but it works!
The idea of an unconference came together when people realized the best times they were having at conferences were the times between sessions - where people with like interests could meet ad hoc. The goal of BarCamp is to facilitate this type of interaction for an entire day. We supply the food, the space, the wireless, the projectors - you show up to teach and learn.
To make BarCamp successful, we need campers, space , and sponsors. We're working on the latter two - we just need you to sign up and come! Scroll down the wiki to learn more.

Other sponsorship opportunities
Companies are welcome to sponsor bookend events on Friday and Saturday night. Please consider sponsoring:
Pre-BarCamp social event on the night of Friday, July 21. A company (or group of companies) is welcome to sponsor food and drinks at a Triangle-area location - perhaps a place like Tylers at the American Tobacco Campus.
Post-BarCamp dinner event in Raleigh. Same as above, a company (or companies) are welcome to host a post-BarCamp dinner event in Raleigh (somewhere convenient to the RedHat HQ is the best bet).
BarCamp is about conversation. These events give companies an excellent opportunity to extend the conversation of BarCamp.
Contact Fred Stutzman (fred @ metalab.unc.edu) to discuss sponsorship.
Y'all may want to consider smaller, more bite-sized sponsorships. At previous BarCamps, we put a maximum of $250 per sponsorship, which made it simple for individuals, startups and small companies to donate a meal, powerstrips, whiteboards...whatever. They add up pretty quickly. Tara
Indeed, Tara's right - People are absolutely welcome to sponsor a parts of our needs. You can sponsor breakfast, lunch, or parts thereof. While you're certainly welcome to sponsor a whole chunk :), smaller parts are absolutely welcome. Fred
Additionally, we may need folks to bring:
4-6 projectors (more the better)
A PA system

If you want to go to BarCampRDU, just add your name and email (feel free to obfuscate, but make it human readable so we can contact you) to the waiting list. Regrets
Brian Russell (Sadly I can't make it on the 22nd. I'm getting married that day!!)
Sessions
The following are ideas for sessions at BarCampRDU. Now that we've got a date, we can actually start claiming sessions to lead. Now, you don't need to claim a session to lead one at BarCampRDU, but if you're looking to promote your session or find people to co-lead your session, you may want to claim yours.
Let's face it - the job market is heating up again. Folks looking for new opportunities are welcome to bring copies of their resume for employers to peruse. A resume swap works like this:
You bring ten paper copies of your resume
We put them in a folder
If employers like what they see, they take a copy and email you
Pretty brainless. So start polishing up your resume.
Sonic Pleasure
Musicians, bring out your fun or cool or weird instruments. Meet. Jam together. Collaborate.
Who should cater the BBQ? The BBQ Joint or Allen & Sons or Bon's (less snout, does vegetarian)?
Dont worry, there will be lots of veg-friendly stuff too :)
Media Coverage
BarCampRDU is going to be a newsworthy event. If anyone has contacts at the following media organizations, they might be interested in coming out and covering the event.
Sam Ruby - Bar Camp vs Rails Conf - it is important to note that Rails Conf is on June 22, whereas BarCampRDU is on July 22. Still, thanks to Sam for throwing a ton of traffic our way ;)
