BarCamp RDU

Date and Location: July 22, 2006 - Red Hat Offices, Raleigh, NC.

What's a BarCamp? Read this First!

A BarCamp is an unconference where people interested in a wide range of technologies come together to teach and learn. Unfamiliar with the un-conference format? Here's the idea in a nutshell. Rather than having scheduled speakers, everyone pitches sessions the morning of the BarCamp. Those sessions are put on a schedule, and lots of little groups form for intense group learning. Everyone is expected to teach, to talk, to participate. Yeah, its different from a regular conference - but it works!

The idea of an unconference came together when people realized the best times they were having at conferences were the times between sessions - where people with like interests could meet ad hoc. The goal of BarCamp is to facilitate this type of interaction for an entire day. We supply the food, the space, the wireless, the projectors - you show up to teach and learn. If you're still not completely sure about BarCampRDU, take a minute and read Tara Calishain's excellent writeup on the WRAL Blog. She does a great job of covering BarCampRDU and explaining the concept.

To make BarCamp successful, we need campers, space , and sponsors . We're working on We've figured out the latter two - we just need you to sign up and come! Scroll down the wiki to learn more.

Other Fun BarCampRDU Things

Resume Swap

Let's face it - the job market is heating up again. Folks looking for new opportunities are welcome to bring copies of their resume for employers to peruse. A resume swap works like this:

  • You bring ten paper copies of your resume
  • We put them in a folder
  • If employers like what they see, they take a copy and email you

Pretty brainless. So start polishing up your resume.

Sonic Pleasure

Musicians, bring out your fun or cool or weird instruments. Meet. Jam together. Collaborate.

Who should cater the BBQ? The BBQ Joint or Allen & Sons or Bon's (less snout, does vegetarian)?

  • Dont worry, there will be lots of veg-friendly stuff too :)

* Allen & Sons has my vote! // Justin

Coffee Question

How are we going to get 3Cups to kick in some beans?

How about Larry's Beans? They're local and support fair trade.

* We've got a budget for coffee - if anyone has suggestions on how to keep 150 people properly caffeinated during the day, I'm all ears - Fred
