What
BarCamp San Diego is an unconference made up of of technical professionals, Internet enthusiasts, and other clever people in the Southern California area who wish to share and learn in an open environment.
Attendees don't just watch a set list of speakers. They give their own talks. Podcasting. Web standards. Microformats. Gum stick computers. Physical security. Robotics. Evolutionary algorithms. Lock picking. It can be anything. This event is not just for stuffy developer types - one of the best barcamp presentations ever given was about sandwiches. Barcamp is what you make of it.
When
May 3 - 4, 2008
10am Saturday through 5pm Sunday, and we mean it. Although barcamps are typically an overnight event, in San Diego we don't take the "camp" part lightly. Even though we'll be spending the night locked in the depths of Microsoft, feel free to bring tents, sleeping bags, and other cozy camp gear (no fire, plz). You don't have to stay if you don't want to, but the most interesting parts of barcamp tend to happen at night. Alcohol will also be liberally supplied starting at dinner, and we want you coming back for Sunday's talks in one piece.

Registration
Official registration opening soon. For now, feel free to proclaim your attendance in typical Web 2.0 fashion on Eventful, Upcoming, and Facebook.
Sponsors
It takes a fair amount of love and money to feed, clothe, and house a passel of geeks for a weekend. Contact us if you're interested.
Goodies
Wait, feed and clothe? To keep the weekend as intense as possible, sponsors provide catered meals and free tshirts so that you don't even have to think about such mundane basic needs. Yes, we like you that much. Vegetarian and vegan options will be available.
Other activities
Here are a few of the festivities planned to keep everyone from climbing up the walls (ahem @ NinjaCamp) after Saturday's talks are over:
DefCamp: BCSD's little slice of Defcon
Organized by Dan Tentler
Last DefCamp went over very well. Climatically, ten guys in the dark searching for infrared blinky lights using their cellphone cameras. Last DefCamp was an 'entry level' contest - that is to say, as long as you could google, you could find the answers.
This time is different. We're pulling out all the stops, I've enlisted help and we're going to have a list of requirements and acoutcherments needed to make it through posted here later.
Team Depth: 3 people
Number of teams: Unlimited!
Number of prizes: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
This is a race people, first three teams to the end get the love.
First Clue: You'll need your own soldering iron.
Wii Bowling tournament
Organized by Ted O'Connor
BCSD2's Wii bowling tournament was a trash talking blast, so we're doing it again. This three-round tournament will pit you against some of San Diego's awesomest people, who may or may not have any Wii Bowling skills whatsoever.
Powerpoint Karaoke
Organized by Lisa Brewster
Also known to some as BattleDecks, Powerpoint Karaoke pits your improvisation skills against my stash of extraordinarily random yet fashionably Creative Commons licensed presentations. Wanna make things even more interesting and sponsor some prizes? Contact me.
