What is BarCamp?
The idea of BarCamp came from Foo Camp where a bunch of the best techie minds in the world got together to talk about new technologies, and to create opportunities for cross-fertilization between people and technologies.
Since only the top minds from some of the largest companies in the world were invited to attend, two people in California decided to make a camp for the rest of us. Now, there are BarCamps somewhere in the world almost every day.
The goal of BarCampSaskatoon, is to bring together, for an afternoon, people who love technology to talk and to learn. Each person who attends has to be willing to talk about something or volunteer (registration, set-up, teardown, etc.). There will be a number of sessions which will be picked by the attendees at the start of the day. For example, if lots of people want to hear about the future of Skype, then that will be on the agenda. If people do not want to hear about the effect use of the “blink” tag, it will not be on the agenda.
Attendees should bring any gadgets they have: laptop, mobile phone, camera, laser pointer, whatever.
When and Where?
BarCampSaskatoon will take place on November 28, 2009 from 1:30pm - 7:30pm at Louis'. Near the heart of the beautiful University of Saskatchewan campus, Louis' facilities and staff have everything we need for BarCamp. Louis' is located on the lower floor of the Memorial Union Building (93 Campus Drive). There are multiple conference areas. Internet access is available. Screens and projectors have been donated.
Head over to Eventbrite to register.

Ideas - What Do You Want to Hear or Talk About?
BarCamp is a conference with a difference.
At BarCamp, anyone can present. In fact, presenting is actively encouraged. Talks can be as short or as long as you like. You can use slides, a web connection, or forgo slides altogether. Talks can be technical or non-technical.
The Barcamp ethos is about sharing information. There is no overriding theme to the conference. If you would like to talk at Barcamp you can either sign-up below or sign-up on the day.
Talk
- Kevin Bryant - Open source tools for high performance web serving (Varnish, LVS, nginx, haproxy?)
Hear
Is there something in particular you would like to hear about at BarCampSaskatoon? Make it known here...
- How has free / open source software opened doors for your business? Would you be able to survive if you had to pay to use the tools you depend on?
- Tips on starting your own home-based web business?
Volunteer
We need people to blog and photograph the sessions they are attending as they happen. Need a few people to work the registration table and set up and tear down. Free t-shirts to all volunteers. Well, everyone will get a free t-shirt but volunteers get dibs! Email us.
- Kevin Bryant - site / anything that needs doing.
- Kimberly Schmidt - photos, set up, name tags, anything that needs help! (including tweeting about events, etc)
Can I help in some other way?
You can help by telling everyone and their dog about BarCamp.
BeerCamp
Traditionally, we gather after BarCamp to get to know each other better and discuss the day's events. Everyone welcome!
Note: You do not have to speak at this conference, but you should be willing to participate in the discussions (if you know something about what is being talked about or if you have questions). You can also volunteer.
