What is BarCamp?

The idea of BarCamp came from Foo Camp where a bunch of the best techie minds in the world got together to talk about new technologies, and to create opportunities for cross-fertilization between people and technologies. Since only the top minds from some of the largest companies in the world were invited to attend, two people in California decided to make a camp for the rest of us. Now, there are BarCamps somewhere in the world almost every day. The goal of BarCamp Saskatoon, is to bring together, for an afternoon, people who love technology to talk and to learn. Each person who attends has to be willing to talk about something or volunteer (registration, set-up, teardown, etc.). There will be a number of sessions which will be picked by the attendees at the start of the day.

This year, BarCamp topics will be organized into 3 broad streams; Science, Business, Art.

Attendees should bring any gadgets they have: laptop, mobile phone, camera, laser pointer, whatever.

When and Where?

BarCamp Saskatoon will take place on October 16, 2010 from 2:00pm - 9:00pm at Louis'. Near the heart of the beautiful University of Saskatchewan campus, Louis' facilities and staff have everything we need for BarCamp. Louis' is located on the lower floor of the Memorial Union Building (93 Campus Drive). There are multiple conference areas. Internet access is available. Registration/set-up at 1:30 pm, sessions start at 2:00 pm.

How Much Does it Cost?

BarCamp Saskatoon is free. However, if you plan to attend you need to sign up so we can gauge how many will attend. Everyone who signs up before Sept. 16 will get a free BarCamp Saskatoon t-shirt. We will also have some "vintage" shirts available. We will also ask for a small donation, for those who can afford it, to cover some expenses ($5 to $10, depending on what you can afford).

Ideas - What Do You Want to Hear or Talk About?

At BarCamp, anyone can present. In fact, presenting is actively encouraged. Talks can be as short or as long as you like. You can use slides, a web connection, or forgo slides altogether. Talks can be technical or non-technical.

The Barcamp ethos is about sharing information. There is no overriding theme to the conference, however this year we are encouraging talks that fit into the categories of Science, Business, or Art. If you would like to talk at Barcamp you can either sign-up below or sign-up on the day.
