BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees.
Event details
Why?
The Internet is currently going through an exciting time. Web 2.0, OpenID, Social Networking etc.. The UK is at the forefront of a lot of this innovation. The North of England is full of enterprising and innovative individuals / businesses but we have to travel to London to talk to kindred spirits. Not any more!
We want BarCampSheffield to showcase the best that the UK has to offer. We want to share knowledge, experience and techniques. If you have a great idea, have developed a great Web App / Mashup or are simply interested in finding out what everyone else in the market is doing then come along. Everyone is Welcome!
To make things interesting we have secured a £1000 award for the best / most innovative web application / mashup by a UK developer(s). All you have to do is come to Sheffield and demonstrate it. Our sponsors are also keen to help you get your application / mashup out into the public.
So, if you want to help share your knowledge or simply talk to people with like minded interests - then come on and join us.
Volunteers to help arrange / promote the event are urgently required.

The future / Ideas?
Can we have a mailing list facility so we can register and hear about how the event went, the date of the next one, etc.?
After the event can we make this a regular thing in the North - maybe do other events in Leeds, York, Hull - maybe Bradford? I have contacts with potential sponsors etc. Let me know your thoughts at Ian Greenor ian(at)greencomms(dot)com. Everything in the social media scene is very London-centric and it would be good to pool all the Northern talent.
BarCampSheffield will be an annual event if it proves popular and people want this type of thing on a regular basis. If people need assistance creating other events in the North - I will be more than happy to help. Dean
Web Apps / Mashup Competition Entrants
(please add your name if you would like to enter the Web Apps / Mashups competition and WIN the £1000 prize. UPDATE: We have also managed to secure some PR activity for those people entering the competition. So not only do you get the chance to win a grand you could also get ££££'s worth of exposure for you and your app :-) So what are you waiting for? Participants for the £1000 prize must announce their intentions to demo prior to the start of barcamp - so right now there is a 50% chance of the 2 entrants winning the £1000 :-) )
