What will happen at the BarCamp?

"BarCamp is an ad-hoc un-conference born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from attendees."

The attendees are encouraged to give a demo, a session, or help with one. We have 5 rooms with projectors and white boards where these sessions can be conducted.

Come at around 9 AM and submit a session for presentation by writing your topic on the "wall". The attendees will then vote for the topics they want to hear. We will pick the topics according to the number of votes they have received and assign them to the rooms.  We repeat this again in the afternoon during the lunch break. Each session is 30 minutes long. We recommend you present for 20 minutes and keep 10 minutes for audience questions.

Presenters are responsible for making sure that notes/slides/audio/video of their presentations are published on the web for the benefit of all and those who can’t be present.  Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join.

This time in Singapore, we are trying an hybrid approach. We are letting about 50% of the session to be pre-registered. Some presenters have already registered via the "Speaker Registration" form below. If you register now, we can give you a confirmed slot.

Notes from Meeting 1 - 08 Jan 2009

Miccheng: Sorry for my absence in the last meeting.

Just a few points:

1) Venue

- Does Meng's condo have sufficient power points / internet bandwidth to accomodate all 400 pple?

- I can prob check with Microsoft Auditorium at NTUC Center to see if their venue is available on those days. We'll need plenty of rooms and MS can probably accomodate us.

2) Format

- We can prob have 2-3 tracks (we do have 3 days) - 2 Invited speakers tracks and 1 "Free for all, any topic, first come first serve basis" speakers track.

- It might be good to have some "focal point" kinda activities at strategic points of the 2 days to consolidate the crowd and rebuild momemtum (eg. magic show after lunch, music session by a local band, etc). Make it more like a fiesta than a "conference".

Anyways, it sounds like lotsa fun. Keep me informed. Will get my PHP User Group involved.

Please join the mailing list: pitchers-sg at google groups (Pitching the (bar)CAMP... get it? :D)

I will help with sponsorship of this event (Bill Claxton). Will try to enlist some of the SiTF companies.
