Barcamp Singapore 3 is here!

Objective:

To bring together interesting people in the IT, media, energy, bio-tech and other sectors to share ideas in an collegial atmosphere of unabashed geekery.

What will happen at the BarCamp?

"BarCamp is an ad-hoc un-conference born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from attendees." 

There are no spectators, only participants.  You are encouraged to give a demo, lead a session, or help out generally. We have 4 rooms with projectors and white boards for sessions, plus a general room for hanging out and chatting. The entire venue has open wi-fi.  Sessions can be any format - a presentations/discussions/panel etc. Each session is 30 minutes long. We recommend you present for 15 minutes and keep 15 minutes for discussion.  You can also schedule double sessions lasting 1 hour.

BarCamp informally begins at 7pm Friday Feb 27 with a dinner, one warm-up, freestyle general session, and a few games of Werewolf.  (venue to be announced)

BarCamp officially begins at 9.30 am Saturday Feb 28 with a welcome by the organizers, a quick 3-word introduction by all the participants, and a "sneak peeks" series of 3-minute lightning talks where everybody is invited to quickly share what they've been working on lately.  If you have slides, those slides MUST be already online at a URL that we can just type into Firefox when you get up to talk.  HTML, PDF, Keynote, and PPT formats are OK. All others are at your own risk; you won't have time to plug in your computer so make sure your slides will work on somebody else's browser. 

If you need overnight accommodations, contact mengwong@pobox.com; he may be able to host you over the Friday and Saturday nights.  There are also several youth hostels in the area, and also some hotels.

Regarding session scheduling: this time in Singapore, we are trying an hybrid approach. We are letting about 50% of the session to be pre-registered. Some presenters have already registered via the "Speaker Registration" form below. If you register now, we can give you a confirmed slot.

The rest of the sessions will be scheduled unconference-style at the event itself.  We'll have a large session board.  Write down your name and your session topic on a piece of paper and tape it to the board.  To reschedule, move the paper.  To promote your session, give a 3 minute preview, and remember to state clearly your name and the title of your session.

If there's a session you want to attend, make a mark on the paper.  Different rooms have different sizes, so a popular session may move to a larger room.  If your session gets no votes, that's okay; the law of two feet means you're pretty likely to pick up some stragglers anyway.

The bulk of this session scheduling will happen over lunch on Saturday, but sessions will stay fluid so keep checking the board!

Sessions begin Saturday at 10.30 am and run until 6.30 pm, with a half hour tea break at 4pm.  

Presenters are responsible for making sure that notes/slides/audio/video of their presentations are published on the web.  Just put a link on this wiki.

If you're wondering if you should bring your laptop with you, the answer is: yes. There are ample power points for you to charge your laptops.
