What will happen at the BarCamp?

"BarCamp is an ad-hoc un-conference born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from attendees."

Barcamps usually features multiple sessions running simultaneously at a venue. Most of the time, the sessions are decided by popular vote. The participants turn up at the venue in the morning. If you want to present something, take the topic sheet from us, write down your topic and paste it on the board.

Your session may be a presentation, a discussion, a hand on demo etc.  Each session lasts 25 minutes. We recommend you present for 15 minutes and leave the last 10 minutes for Q&A. There is a 5 minute interval for changeover to the next session.  As a courtesy to the next presenter, make sure that you finish your session within 25 minutes. Our timekeepers will signal at 15 minutes and they will stop you at 25 minutes.  If you feel that you have more to say or the discussions are entering interesting stage, you can move to one of open areas just outside the venue and continue the interaction with your participants.

All the presentation venues (5 classrooms) have wi-fi and projectors. There are ample power points around and the attendees as well as the presenters can use their computers.

We also have 3 smaller open areas outside with power and wi-fi but no projector that can be used to run software demos and smaller sessions.

If a participant wants to attend your session, they will vote for your session with a mark on your topic sheet. You can do the same for the sessions you want to attend. Topics with the most votes get selected and they are assigned rooms and time slots.  Different rooms have different sizes, so a popular session may be moved to a larger room.   Though not compulsory, all participants are encouraged to give a demo, lead a session, or help out generally. We will repeat the voting during the lunch break for the afternoon and evening sessions.

Regarding session scheduling: this time in Singapore, we are trying an hybrid approach. We are letting about 50% of the session to be pre-registered. Some presenters have already registered via the "Speaker Registration" form. UPDATE. 20/02/2009 Please note that all our pre-allocated slots are taken. You can still use the form to enter your topic. We will slot you in if any of the existing speakers cancel. Your session will also be put up for audience votes at the venue and you might still get a chance to present.

For future reference we request you to post your presentation slides on Slideshare with the tag barcampsg3. Use the same tag for pictures you post on Flickr. If you are going to be twittering about the barcamp, use the prefix #barcampsg3 on your message.
