Barcamp Singapore 3 is here!

Objective:

To bring together interesting people in the IT, media, energy, bio-tech and other sectors to share ideas in an collegial atmosphere of unabashed geekery.

We have about 200 registered participants for the Singapore Barcamp 3 to be held on Saturday, 28 February 2009. 33 speaking slots are already taken up and we have 24 more sessions reserved for spot voting and selection on the actual day. The venue is Teaching and Learning Centre at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, 535 Clementi Road, Singapore - 599489

Getting there

The easiest way to get to Ngee Ann Polytechnic is via bus number 74 from Dover MRT (EW Line).  As you exit from the ticket turnstiles, turn to your left to EXIT A. The bridge leads to Singapore Poly. At the end of the bridge is an escalator to the bus stop below.  Take bus number 74 (every 10 to 15 minutes). Counting the starting bus stop, Ngee Ann Polytechnic is the 9th stop.  The stop before Ngee Ann is Singapore Institute of Management.

We will place signs at the Ngee Ann bus stop leading you to the actual venue.

From Clementi MRT, you can take bus number 154 and 184.  Bus numbers 52, 61, 74, 75, 151, 154, 184 also ply by Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

Schedule:

You can come in and leave any time depending on the sessions you want to attend (unless you want to talk, In which case you must be present at 9.30 AM or 2 PM to post your topic) This is how the schedule looks like at the moment. 

Do you want to present or talk at the Barcamp?

In Barcamps, we encourage the audience to present, give a demo and start a discussion.  We have reserved 24 slots for topics selected at the venue. Come to the venue by 9.30 AM or at 2PM. Take a topic sheet from us and write down the name of your topic.

Paste this on the voting board.  Pitch your topic to those around you. If enough people vote for your topic, we will allocate a time slot for your topic.

How to vote for a topic?

If you like any topics listed on the voting board, take a marker from us and draw a line on the topic sheet. You can vote for more than one topic.

Presenter guidelines and time limits:

Each presenter gets 25 minutes. The last 5 minutes are reserved for changeover and setting up of next presenter's laptop. We recommend 15 minutes presentation and 10 minutes for Q&A. We understand 25 minutes is too little if the discussion is getting really interesting. We encourage you to lead the interested participants to one of the many open areas just outside the venue. All the open areas have wifi, power and fans. Our timekeepers will alert you at 15 minutes and they will stop you at 25.

Ideas for attendees:

If you are attending a session, we urge you to blog your thoughts. There are so many interesting sessions running at one time and often its hard to pick the one to attend.  The more we blog, the more sessions we can follow virtually. If you are going to be twittering about the barcamp, use the prefix #barcampsg3 on your message. If you would posting pictures to Flickr, please use the tag barcampsg3
