Background

To learn, meet people who share different interests, contribute, and push yourself and your thinking. Besides, Chris and Tara will be in town, so why not have a BarCamp?

The Toronto Drupal Group (DUG) is organising a Drupal camp DrupalCampToronto on May 12th (immediately before BarCampTdot).

Event Info

May 13-14, 2006 Saturday noon-ish - Sunday noon-ish

171 East Liberty St. Toronto, ON M6K 3P6

Please register on WhosAttendingBarCampTdot to help us estimate the number of attendees.

PLEASE NOTE: Sunday the 14th of May is Mother's Day - if there is interest then there will be events, but go hang out with your Mom if that's your thing. Or bring her to BarCamp!

Event Schedule and Agenda

Let's make this very conversational, more revolutionary...not limiting it to that, but, would love to hear from you about how you want to change the world. What has pissed you off? What do you want to change and how do you see it changing? Through technology? Through practice? Through organizing? Of course, it's still waaaay open for technology discussions and demos.

Interested in participating in the XP Project Room? Even if you just want to drop in, we wouldn't mind knowing how many folks to expect. Learn more and declare your interest here: IplanToStopByTheProjectRoom.

What is BarCamp

(As stolen from BarCampNYC and BarCampLosAngeles, as copied from BarCampSanDiego) BarCamp is an ad-hoc un-conference born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from attendees.

This event is part of the TorCamp phenomenon, started last November. It's grown from about 50 at TorCamp 1 to over 140 at the last TorCamp DemoCamp.

All attendees must give a demo, a session, or help with one. All presentions are scheduled the day they happen. Prepare in advance, but come early to get a slot on the wall.

Presenters are responsible for making sure that notes/slides/audio/video of their presentations are published on the web for the benefit of all and those who can’t be present.

Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join.

NO SPECTATORS, ONLY PARTICIPANTS!

When you come, be prepared to share with barcampers. When you leave, be prepared to share it with the world.

BarCampTdotSponsors

We are looking for stuff:

  • Projectors
    • BorisMann: I can bring a projector with me
    • AlexeiWhite: EBA sponsored projector from the west to the east!
  • Audio equipment

Sponsor Furniture

See the BarCampTdotPlanning page. Wowsers! Furniture was almost double what was initially planned. Furniture rental is $1115 that includes 150 chairs, 15 tables + linens, and 5 garbage cans. We might need 2 extra sponsors to help cover these costs.

Sponsor Shirts

We were lucky and received sponsorship for t-shirts for the first TorCamp aka BarCampToronto. We used Artik on King Street West. We printed on Fruit of the Loom cotton t-shirts, with 2 color front and back screen. $893.55/60 shirts = $14.89/shirt including screening, setup and taxes. Current estimates are for 100 t-shirts would require approximately 6 sponsors at $250/sponsor ($1,489/100 t-shirts).

It might be worth checking out Hardboiled Inc. in Kensington Market. According to my napkin calculations 100, 2-colour, front + back printed t-shirts would cost a total of $983 for Fruit of the Loom and $1,541 for American Apparel (more expensive but probably less sweatshoppy) shirts. PatrickDinnen We used Artik the last time entirely because of timing, i.e., we did not raise the required sponsorship until too close to the time and Hardboiled couldn't handle the incredibly (unreasonably) short time period. If we're able to raise the necessary sponsorship (and this comes after furniture rental, cleaning supplies, etc) and there is still enough time Hardboiled is on the list.

Sponsor Food

Estimated at $250/meal, though this number might be low. We're also estimating approximately $250 for pop, water, snacks, etc.

  • Pop, water, juice, snacks, etc.
  • Saturday Lunch
  • Saturday Dinner
  • Sunday Breakfast
  • Sunday Lunch
