Background

Toronto Technology Week is a initiative headed by ICT Toronto to host a week long event to celebrate Toronto (and the GTA) being the largest high-tech hub in Canada and the third largest in North America. This week already has fantastic events scheduled including mesh conference and Canadian New Media Awards. As citizens of this community, we should hold another BarCamp.

What is Toronto Tech Week?

Mark Kuznicki and Dave Forde provide more details on the specifics of Toronto Tech Week. There is an Upcoming group to track events happening during the week.

Toronto’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry cluster will come together to celebrate being the largest high-tech hub in Canada and the third largest in North America. During this event, named “Toronto Technology Week” (TTW) a series of activities will be undertaken to showcase the depth and breath of Toronto’s high technology sector. These will include trade associations’ events such as seminars and business networking functions, job fairs, collaboration demonstrations, an ICT business open door program, school projects, educational seminars, special exhibits showcasing innovation & excellence and other ICT sector-related activities. An organizing committee formed by ICT industry stakeholders representing a cross-section of this industry, in both the private and public sectors, has been formed to implement this initiative.

What is BarCamp?

(As stolen from BarCampNYC and BarCampLosAngeles, as copied from BarCampSanDiego) BarCamp is an ad-hoc un-conference born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from attendees.

This event is part of the TorCamp phenomenon, started last November. It's grown from about 50 at TorCamp 1 to over 140 at the last TorCamp DemoCamp.

All attendees must give a demo, a session, or help with one. All presentions are scheduled the day they happen. Prepare in advance, but come early to get a slot on the wall.

Presenters are responsible for making sure that notes/slides/audio/video of their presentations are published on the web for the benefit of all and those who can’t be present.

Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join.

NO SPECTATORS, ONLY PARTICIPANTS!

When you come, be prepared to share with barcampers. When you leave, be prepared to share it with the world.
