BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees. In this particular instance we are going to experiment a bit and use this tool to drive the content for the upcoming Portland Film Community night on Dec 2nd.

Please feel free to chime in and suggest topics you would like to see addressed, this site will be up until Dec.1st at which point the potent topics you suggest (scroll down and add in content under "Topics") will be whittled down to what we believe can be reasonably addressed within the 7-9pm time frame of the Film Community Night.  On Dec 2nd we will hold a "Town Hall" style meeting where members of the community can sign up to speak Once we have the list of topics through the barcamp process, we would then have the topics up for discussion and we could have sign up sheets that night for those interested in speaking on each topic.

We currently propose that each person would be given no more than 3 minutes and then the panel would have 3 minutes for response to each speaker. If the moderator thought that the topic warranted more time for discussion, then the moderator could allow this extra time. Karl Lind will be the moderator for the evening he is as “unaffiliated” with any of the organizations as possible. We also think there should be one or two timekeepers in the audience to help the moderator keep this discussion moving.

The idea of experimenting with the Barcamp format for this upcoming event has been suggested due to discussions that have been coming up in the community in regards to the roles various organizations serve within our environment as well as the job market here in the NW. We hope that this tool can be a useful mult-way radio for the Portland Film and Video Community to weigh in and be heard! We also realize that the depth and complexity of the issues to be potentially addressed deserve further discussions and we highly encourage any interested individuals and or parties to contribute to this event.
