RiseCamp

When: Saturday, April 11, 2009

Where: Mumbai

Location: To be identified

About RiseCamp

RiseCamp is a meeting of thinkers, doers, dreamers, activists, rebels - but most importantly optimists - discussing, debating, plotting and coming up with new ideas that could help shape a new direction for India and for the Indians living in it.

RiseCamp hopes to identify the right avenues for the ordinary citizens of India who would like to contribute and work towards improving the social, civic and political situation in our country. RiseCamp will be a platform for people who have already devoted their life to challenging the status quo. RiseCamp would like to be an umbrella under which diverse groups and organisations come together, share ideas, learn and channel their energies towards solving the big problems that our country faces today.

Risecamp is an open- ended forum, unlike many others where you need to pay or know people to attend. It is not a political front, or a citizen action group, or an NGO. There are two key aspects of Risecamp.

1. It is a forum for new ideas towards bringing social, political or civic change in India

2. It is a platform for organisations, individuals and groups who are implementing their ideas

Although many people in India might feel that it is time for action, we still feel the need for debate, discussion and more importantly an avenue where any ordinary citizen of India can come forward and suggest a different way of doing things. The key here is to make sure that we successfully align the people with new ideas to the group of people already implementing ideas. Risecamp can help in this process. This is what we see as the USP of Risecamp

RiseCamp is based on the Barcamp concept, which basically refers to an open-ended, collaborative un-conference, where people come together and decide upon the topics that they would like to talk about, hear and discuss, rather than have it force fed to you.  For those who want to know more about Barcamp, please visit the following links:

For those who are new to the whole concept of BarCamp's this website is editable, which in technical terms is known as a wiki. Am sure you have heard of wikipedia, it is based on the same concept. Anyone can register at the link given below. It is simple and straightforward.

New Wiki Registration

After registering you can edit this page (look for 'Edit' tab on the top of this page next to 'View'), add content, even delete content if you feel like. Don't forget to 'Save' after you have edited. The Save button is at the bottom of this page.

Thats where this becomes a community organized, collaborative conference. You will notice that there are places on this website where you can add your name, volunteer for tasks, add topics, suggest guests etc.

We really encourage you to do that and become as much a part of it, as we are!
