Demo Camp 6 Agenda
1) Kempton, in his role of Instigating/Founding Organizer of Demo and Bar Camp Calgary, has proposed to take the first hour of Demo Camp 6 on Feb 12th to present lessons learned from Bar Camp 1.
And to get the community to help resolve some serious organizational differences between Bar Camp 1 organizers: namely amongst Kempton, Patrick, Sarah, David, and John.
The organizers will present their lessons learned and how can things be done better for Bar Camp 2.
And to maintain a healthy community, the organizers have also committed to let the Camp community hear out what were the reasons that lead to the taking of some actions by different organizers during the organizing of Bar Camp 1.
In particular, there were some extraordinary actions taken based on some strongly held beliefs and rationales. Ultimately, these actions and rationales may be well-reasoned for people who held these beliefs strongly. It is best we look at these beliefs and differences with open and forgiving hearts.
And with the assistance and the wisdom of the community, hopefully we all can all learn how to do things better for future Bar Camps and Demo Camps.
This is an important item for the health of the community as a whole, so we will be starting off with this open and frank discussion.
Again, this agenda item is not to lay blame nor find faults, the key is to create a better Bar Camp 2 experience for all to enjoy and appreciate.
2) Demos
3) Ignite presentations (see below for more info)
We've been gathering community feedback over the last few months, and here are some of your comments:
- Hold the DemoCamps in a more casual environment while providing highspeed internet access, etc. for doing proper demos.
- Can we show powerpoint presentations?
- Can we have a roundtable discussion on interesting topics?
- Can we have proper introductions instead of announcing our favourite cheese?
Great comments, keep them coming. For this DemoCamp, we're checking into a new venue and will let you know once it is confirmed (if you have suggestions, let us know). Also, we're always interested in how we can make DemoCamp more interesting and engaging for audiences. Toronto seems to be enjoying some success with Ignite presentations - short, 5 minute slideshows consisting of 20 slides @ 15 seconds per slide. Slides are set to advance automatically, to keep the presenters on track. (find out more here: http://igniteseattle.com/). Anyone here interested in making an Ignite presentation?
And, yes, we can have proper intros instead of announcing our favourite cheese. Killjoy.
