Performance and Creativity in a Digital Playground @ Barcamp Vancouver
My name is Phillip Jeffrey and I am a graduate student at UBC. The focus of my presentation is on Facebook applications from a social-cultural perspective.
- I will first give a primer about Facebook and provide historical context regarding the integration of the various applications into Facebook since 2004.
- I will further elaborate on existing Facebook applications as well as discuss some of those build on the Facebook platform. Specifically, I will discuss a few of those that are being used for creative expression and social performance.
- I will conclude with a group discussion regarding Facebook applications both those developed by Facebook and by developers using the Facebook platform, to enable us to better understand how they are being used.
I hope to devote equal time to my presentation and the group discussion.
Some of the discussion points I would like to raise are below:
1. Is there anyone that doesn’t use the Platform applications?
2. What benefits do people get from the applications?
3. What apps do people recommend for others to use?
4. What do people like/dislike?
5. What do you see as the future of the applications?
6. How do you feel when you get invitations unsolicited to use them?
7. How do you feel when you have to add an application in order to view a gift, poke, action sent by a friend?
8. How do you negotiate the different types of friends you have and how they may view your applications differently?
9. Any personal stories on how the newsfeed has turned you onto to a certain application?
