What's it about?
What is a Barcamp?
An ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees.
HomelessConnectCamp
HomelessConnectCamp is a platform for local tech communities, city officials and community volunteers to have a conversation about the challenges faced in their neighborhoods and how technology can help bring awareness to existing programs.
Homeless Connect
Project Homeless Connect (PHC), a national best practice model, originated in San Francisco under Mayor Gavin Newsom in October 2004. Every other month over 1000 community volunteers partner with city government, non-profits and the private sector to provide a one-stop shop of health and human services for homeless San Franciscans.
Today, PHC is emulated in 200 cities across the United States as well as Canada, Puerto Rico and Australia. Services include medical, mental health, substance abuse, housing, dental, SSI benefits, legal counseling, eyeglasses, California ID, food, voicemail, employment counseling and job placement, wheelchair repair and more. As of December 2008, 19,600 volunteers have provided services to more than 26,000 homeless and poor San Franciscans.
