Intellectual Property discussion: Don Jarrell, Digital Thinking Inc.
This will really be responsive to the questions and issues attendees want to discuss. In fact, I welcome feedback below. I am not an attorney, but work in the practical business and strategy issues regarding IP. If attendees really want an IP attorney to join in, I can probably get one of several with whom I frequently work to join in leading the session. The plan is to open the floor to question and topics from the attendees. I will probably have a few to offer to stimulate thinking/selection, such as:
- How do I "protect my idea" ?
- To patent or not to patent, what’s the value ?
- Realistic expectations in commercializing a patent.
- Trade secret regimens that work and are defensible
- How can I use patent licensing to help persuade companies to go green ?
- Who in the organization owns the IP management job ?
- Effective, non-evil use of copyright in a publishing strategy
- What is the difference between Trademark and Copyright and how do I use both ?
- What’s the latest on software & business method patents ?
Good news: NO slide sequences. I will have a few slides that I can pull up to support discussions, and will use a whiteboard. Come and bring your questions.

Which of above are interesting ? What other topics or questions do you want to discuss ? How important is it that there be an IP attorney in the session ?
